CW: Just some rambling about my frustration of fighting against my thoughts to focus on my studies, and not having enough time for Fossery stuff (Post 1/2)
Dang, I need to study but I can't stop thinking about the things I want to do outside studying. I want to develop FosseryWeb, make some videos etc. My brain can't stop generating ideas, and refusing to focus on my university studies until I do all of that. Dang, my brain! Stop, please stop generating ideas all the time! I have to study to be able to make a living!! I fight constant war against my thoughts to be able to focus, and be able to get a job once I finish my studies, because of course I have to make a living, and this Fossery Tech / FosseryWeb project won't be my main source of income, because I'm not a businessman, can't make this whole project profitable without giving up what it stands for (promoting only FOSS software/services, standing against Big Tech and digital slavery), which I won't. So I guess the only solution is to force myself to study some boring theoretical stuff for 4 years, then work for a company, which may or may not become "evil"... Regardless, I will always separate this project from my daily job, won't tell my employers about it, to avoid situations, like being manipulated/forced to promote the company's product under the Fossery Tech name, because any for-profit company can become evil, then I couldn't say, I don't want to promote their product anymore, it would be a really bad situation. Hell nah, I won't get into that crappy situation (unlike some other content creators...).

There's no shame in not finishing your hobby projects. Worrying about that is pointless.
There is still benefit in finishing projects. The Cult of Done Manifesto has a brilliant 13th entry: "Done is the engine of more".
By finishing things, you'll inspire more work, you gain momentum and you can get feedback that feeds into creating more.

Auf dem Weg zum Supermarkt habe ich mir Gedanken über nachhaltige Hobbies gemacht.
Dann habe ich einen Dosenverschluss auf dem Boden gesehen und gesagt:
"Neues nachhaltiges Hobby gefunden! Ab heute sammle ich Dosenverschlüsse"
Kurz darauf habe ich noch einen Dosenverschluss und zwei Redbull Dosen gefunden und von denen die Verschlüsse abgezogen und die Dosen abgegeben und 50 Cent Dosenpfand bekommen.
Und ich habe immer gedacht, man kann kein Geld mit nachhaltigen Tätigkeiten machen. Wie ich mich geirrt habe 😀

Earlier in the summer I thought it would be fun to design my own PCB at some point, and a few weeks later I decided to just give it a go. It's half circuit and half just a mounting board for things I need in specific places on my Raspberry pi rover, so the layout is a bit weird, but I think it could work! Today I found myself with about half an hour of me-time after work, and naturally spent it poking down a stuck toy from the roof of our patio room using my remote-controlled rover equipped with a carefully designed poking stick. It was more difficult than expected since the rubbery toy had almost fused with the plastic roof, but I got it loose just as I had to go pick up the family from a play date. A quick test run! The camera is mounted way too low, but it will do for now. Also one side of the gearbox is a lot noisier than the other. I might have to disassemble it and see what's going on. Finally mounted the battery hat on the Raspberry pi, and experimented a bit with different ways of fitting the different parts onto the base. This is my favorite so far, pretty compact with a low center of gravity. If I decide to stick with it I might get some 3D-printed mounts, but cardboard and tape works for now. #raspberrypi #electronics #tinkering #rover #hobbyproject #hobbyprojects

Unexpectedly got some hobby time in this evening, and quickly prepared a couple of beefier motors for my Raspberry pi rover. I bought these along with the gearbox and the current motors over ten years ago - good thinking, past me! 6V motors should make a difference compared to the current 3V ones. #raspberrypi #electronics #tinkering #hobby #hobbyproject #hobbyprojects
