💡 In today’s keynote at #HMCConference2026, Dr. Jan Portisch (SAP) shared a clear and compelling message: “90% data and semantics, 10% AI.”
His talk on RDF knowledge graphs highlighted that the real effort in building data-driven systems lies in integration, platforms, and semantic structures — not just in AI itself.
This perspective resonated strongly with the audience and reflects a central theme of the conference: meaningful innovation depends on well-structured and interoperable data.

🎯 Day 2 of #HMCConference2026 continues
Today’s sessions show how interoperability is a multi-layered challenge across systems, metadata, and workflows.
A talk on “Local Semantics with Global Meaning” sparked lively discussions on how local ontology approaches can scale, with conversations continuing well beyond the session.
Another highlight was the @nfdi4health metadata schema, where multiple standards are mapped together to enable interoperability in health research.

🚀 Day 1 of #HMCConference2026
Day 1 in Heidelberg brought together workshops, opening, keynote, and interactive poster sessions — all showing how metadata is actively shaping research in practice.
A key message throughout the day: making FAIR data work requires cultural change, not just technical solutions.
Discussions also highlighted how interoperability has many layers — from metadata to data itself — each adding complexity and opportunity.
Looking forward to the next days!

🎉 Day 1 of #HMCConference2026 is in full swing
After a morning of hands-on workshops, the official opening, and an inspiring keynote, the first talk sessions have now concluded here in Heidelberg.
The discussions so far highlight how metadata is becoming an integral part of research workflows – and that making FAIR data a reality requires cultural change as much as technical solutions.
The programme now moves into poster and demo sessions, followed by the welcome reception.
