  2. In case there are any HEMAists here, our club is organising a TEAM longsword tournament this autumn in Prague, Czechia. We are opening the registration today at 14:00 CEST (i.e. in less than an hour). I will post the link to the registration form as a reply to this toot. In the meantime, here is all the important info about the tournament: krkavci.cz/tournament/afo-ofa-

  3. I've been doing Balkan dance classes this year, and am still teaching my Italian (and some spanish) #HistoricalFencing classes. I keep being really impressed how well the two integrate, and am really starting to wonder what would happen if I really dug into the dance and music styles contemporary to the swordplay styles I teach.

  7. Continuing to work with Fabris in my own personal #HistoricalFencing practice. Finding it challenging, but very rewarding.

Here's a picture from some slow freeplay last saturday.

  9. print("Hello World!") :aphotoblob:

Hi there, I just wanted to write an #introduction since today I changed server.

I'm Claudia, from #Italy! I have a background in #Biology and after my undergraduate degree I chose to pursue a MSc in #Bioinformatics. My biggest dream is to study the relationship between genes and cognitive abilities and in particular, I'd like to contribute in the field of Neurodevelopmental Disorders in the future. :blobcatfluffhappy:

My main interests are: #Genetics #Genomics #Bioinformatics #DataScience #Statistics #NeurodevelopmentalDisorders #EvolutionaryBiology #AnimalBehavior. I am passionate about science communication books and I can't wait to share with you some of my favourite readings! :blobcatpicturebook:

I live my life one struggle at a time thanks to #CrohnsDisease and my lifelong enemy #Dyscalculia. Yes, I'm a formally diagnosed dyscalculic wannabe data scientist, does that surprise you? Well, thanks to programming languages I can cope quite well! I'm learning #R #Python #SQL and #MATLAB :blobcatnerd:

Other than science, I have tons of interests, from weapons and martial arts (#HistoricalFencing, #Iaido, #Kendo and #Archery) to videogames (especially cozy #Nintendo games like Pokémon and Animal Crossing). ⚔️ 🏹 :poke_ball_shake:

    My life is full of "A"s: I'm #Atheist, #Asexual and #Aromantic :heart_ace: :heart_aro:

I can't wait to find some interesting people to follow so if you are one, ⭐ this post so I can find you! :blobcatflower:

Just to clarify, I consider myself an absolute beginner both in biology and bioinformatics as I have little to no practical experience at the moment, so please don't take my opinions as if they come from an expert. If there is something I know for a fact, is that biology is complex so it takes more than a few years in university to truly understand it, that's why I never feel 100% confident with my knowledge - this is also why I joined qoto, I'm sure that reading discussions and asking experts will enrich my views.

  10. What is HEMA?
    2/6

Some people call this #HistoricalFencing, but #fencing makes people think only on #swords, and #HEMA is much more: #pugilism (#boxing), #wrestling, fighting with #lance or #poleax or even #scythe and #sickle!

Actually «fencing» comes from the same germanic root as «fight» (combat, struggle), «fence» (defensive construction) and «defence» (well... you get the idea).

The german word «fechten», which nowadays is used for «fencing», has also the same root. See the next toot.
