  1. "What began as a simple curiosity-led search for a single specimen quickly snowballed. This 77-year-old enquiry had suddenly launched me into a deep dive into entangled stories of colonial history, war time losses and bird taxonomy."

"Dr. Anna Pierce Hobbs Bixby is credited with identifying the plant in the 1830s. Legend has it that she was taught about the plant's properties by a Shawnee woman."

  11. Carl Linnaeus: The Dragon Slayer.
"In one of his autobiographies, Linnaeus describes his pride in his discovery of the fraud: “The dragon in Hamburg had fooled all curieusa in the world until Archiater Linnaeus arrived and found him made by art”. In another one of his autobiographies, he proudly claims that “he was the first who discovered from the teeth that this monster was not by nature but an artis miraculum.” This satisfaction at disproving their existence suggests a deeper desire to disprove dragons."

  13. "The giraffe suffered badly from injuries sustained on the long journey from deepest Africa to Windsor. In the months before her death she was unable to stand and a giant frame with a sling was constructed to hoist her up."

  15. Ce n'est pas tous les jours qu'on voit un volcan naître sous ses yeux !
Dès le premier jour, il passe de simple fissure dans le sol à un cône de 30 mètres de haut...

  21. "Perhaps the single most influential contributor to the tomato's healthy image was Dr. John Cook Bennett, a quixotic figure in mid-western history. (...) In his introductory lecture at Willoughby, Bennett declared that tomatoes successfully treated diarrhea, violent bilious attacks, and dyspepsia (indigestion). He recommended that tomatoes replace calomel because they were less harmful, predicting that "a chemical extract will probably soon be obtained from it which will altogether supersede the use of Calomel in the cure of diseases." (...) Bennett urged all citizens to eat tomatoes raw, cooked or in catsup, as they were "the most healthy article of the Materia Alimentary." Bennett included recipes for tomato sauce, fried tomatoes, tomato pickles, tomato catsup, and eating raw tomatoes."

Now that's truth in advertisement: Tomatoes, healthier than *actual mercury*!
