  1. The gunman who killed 4 people in a NYC office building in July had #CTE, the degenerative #BrainDisease linked to repeated #HeadInjuries sustained in #football & other contact sports….

    CTE can be diagnosed only posthumously. Shane Tamura,…a former HS #football player, shot himself in the chest after killing 4 people & left a note that said his motive was anger at the #NFL, which he blamed for hiding the effects of CTE In the note, he asked that his brain be studied.

  2. When I was little, boxing was a huge spectator sport, but over the years its reputation for damaging the players has led to its near demise. the popularity of Football in America is no excuse to keep it around as we are injuring so many of its players.

    Unless there is a way to redesign the game to prevent most head contacts, (current efforts have failed) there is no excuse to continue to play football. (or to allow heading in soccer)

  3. Of all major organized team sports Rugby is by far the most likely to create serious head injury, though Rugby is a very minor sport compared to American football or soccer, so the raw numbers of head injuries is much higher in both football and soccer.
    Given what we know now about team sports and head injuries, it seems reasonable to ban football and rugby and to eliminate "heading", or using ones head to hit the ball in soccer.
