About 20 feet away, and minutes before #AdwahHathaleen was shot, another #Israeli settler in an excavator tried to destroy the village’s main water pipe, according to media reports. A local man named Ahmad, Awdah’s cousin, was struck in the head with the excavator’s arm and nearly knocked unconscious after he tried to stop the driver.

Turning to Ahmad after #Hathaleen was taken away, the nurse administered a neurological exam; he was severely concussed with diminished mental function before he too was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

On Thursday, more than seventy women from Umm al-Kheir—ranging from teenagers to the elderly—launched an open-ended hunger strike until Hathaleen’s body is returned by the #Israeli police. De Palestijnse vredesactivist en leraar Engels Awdah Hathaleen, die ook meewerkte aan de bekroonde documentaire No Other Land, zette zich jarenlang in tegen de illegale bezetting door Israëlische kolonisten. Deze week werd hij door een van hen doodgeschoten.

Israëlische militairen zeggen het lichaam pas terug te geven als de familie akkoord gaat met de eis dat #Hathaleen niet in zijn eigen woonplaats begraven wordt.
