Group B began in 1982 with few restrictions. The Lancia Delta S4 combined a supercharger and turbocharger in its 1.8L engine, producing up to 750 hp. Its speed pushed safety to the limit. On May 2, 1986, Henri Toivonen and Sergio Cresto died in a Delta S4 crash in Corsica. FISA president Jean-Marie Balestre banned Group B that same day.
