  1. On March 14, 2025, the ECLAIRs telescope of the #SVOM mission detected a #GammaRayBurst (#GRB) lasting 10 seconds, which was followed up from the ground to determine its source: the explosion of a massive star in a #supernova, just 730 million years after the Big Bang.

This is an exceptional observation: “Over the past 50 years, only a few rare gamma-ray bursts dating back to the first billion years of the Universe have been detected.”

  3. [#MultiMessenger Astrophysics] The very first colloquium of the #astrophysics Center for Multimessenger Studies in Europe (#ACME) is being held this week in Toulouse. It brings together numerous specialists in #GRB, #kilonovae, compact #binaries and more. These are the main transient and periodic sources of gravitational waves that travel through our #Universe, and which numerous experimental devices are attempting to intercept - from both ground and space.

  4. [End of mission for #Integral] At the time of its launch (in 2002), it was the most advanced #gamma-ray observatory and the first space observatory capable of simultaneously viewing celestial objects in the gamma, X-ray and visible domains.

Integral has transformed our understanding of the high-energy #Universe. Its observations have made it possible to identify the sources of the so-called “long” and “short” gamma-ray bursts (#GRB) : the collapse of stars into supernovae, on the one hand, and the collisions of black holes and neutron stars, on the other. IRAP's scientific and technical staff have contributed to the success of this mission: both in the realization of the #instruments and in the analysis of the observation data. On February 28, 2025, a long and beautiful page of our space adventure turns ...

  5. [#GRB: detection and follow-up] On June 22, the #SVOM mission was launched. Since September 7, the #COLIBRI ground-based telescope has been tracking #flashes of light detected by the #ECLAIRs space telescope.

COLIBRI is a French-designed #robotic telescope installed at the San Pedro Mártir National Astronomical Observatory in #Mexico.
