  6. There's a brief update by @LIGO, Virgo, and KAGRA on the start of their next observing run.

The first intermediate run (IR1) is expected to begin early- to mid-November of 2026. It's duration is scheduled to be six months. The LIGO instruments will be slightly more sensitive than in the previous observing run O4. Virgo will join but with possible interruptions for maintenance and upgrade, and KAGRA will join later in the run as available.

You will find more information on our homepage: aei.mpg.de/gwastronomy

  11. Gravitational-wave constraints on the pair-instability mass gap and nuclear burning in massive stars: nature.com/articles/s41550-026 -> Biggest black holes built up in busy star clusters after series of violent merging events, research finds: eurekalert.org/news-releases/1 - team identifies two distinct black hole populations in version 4.0 of the #GravitationalWave Transient Catalog.

  12. Sorry to anyone who has tried to access #gwchirp recently, but the SSL certificates expired and updating them got lost in my todo-list. Rest assured it has now been updated and available again at chirp.research.exeter.ac.uk/.

There's not been an awful lot to see of late, as the #Gravitationalwave network is mostly not actively observing, but we'll hopefully be ready to catch them when the new events start to pour in.

Ich war vor einigen Jahren da und es ist einfach unglaublich, mit welchen Tricks so eine unfassbare Präzision erreicht wird.
