LanguageTool is a browser extension and an AI-based grammar checker. Paste your text or start typing below to check grammatical errors and spelling mistakes across languages.

  2. Finally, a grammar checker that isn't made by a company who drunk deeply of the AI poison! Harper seems pretty good so far; as it highlights the few mistakes I make throughout the typing process. Giving me gentle feedback through color-coded underlines. Trying Harper for the week and figuring out if the grammar/spellchecker is worth keeping installed.

  3. Did anyone ever use the online grammar checker grammark.org/#/ ?

It seems to me it has been hijacked to just promote ads for Grammarly : some site pages have a different style, and the author name has been substituted by a fake one (her sketch says either Olivia or Jane). I can't even find the original github repository.

  4. Dear #Word #GrammarChecker: There is a difference between not intentionally doing something and intentionally not doing something. Don’t propose the former as a correction for the latter.

  5. Has somebody recently gone around and kicked all the #grammar checkers (that live inside of all of our software) in their heads?

For most of the last few years, grammar checkers have been making reasonable suggestions. I don't always agree with them, but they're reasonable.

Recently, it seems like they've all forgotten how English works. All of this supposed #AI they've added, and all I see is them getting dumber.

  7. It is a strange sight when the grammar checker you use to check your English starts correcting your Sanskrit.

Yeah, sure, I know that I'm not using the correct transliteration but a phonetic rendition, but the phonetic rendition I picked is extremely common, and I'm not about to teach how to read transliterated Sanskrit to my readers.

  8. For people who want grammatical checks for free, I recommend LanguageTool. Its basic usage is free, and it does plenty for me. I use it in English and French. There are a few annoyances, but nothing that breaks the camel's back.

(It found two errors in this post before I fixed them. 😬)
