  4. Finally, a grammar checker that isn't made by a company who drunk deeply of the AI poison! Harper seems pretty good so far; as it highlights the few mistakes I make throughout the typing process. Giving me gentle feedback through color-coded underlines. Trying Harper for the week and figuring out if the grammar/spellchecker is worth keeping installed.

  7. Did anyone ever use the online grammar checker grammark.org/#/ ?

It seems to me it has been hijacked to just promote ads for Grammarly : some site pages have a different style, and the author name has been substituted by a fake one (her sketch says either Olivia or Jane). I can't even find the original github repository.

  10. Một lập trình viên đã tự xây dựng trình kiểm tra ngữ pháp "Harper" vì không hài lòng với các công cụ hiện có (LanguageTool, Grammarly) do tốc độ chậm. Harper tập trung vào tốc độ và bảo mật, chạy trực tiếp trên thiết bị. Dự án này đã được Automattic (công ty đứng sau WordPress.com) mua lại. Hiện có bản demo web và plugin cho Chrome, Firefox, Obsidian.

  15. Has somebody recently gone around and kicked all the #grammar checkers (that live inside of all of our software) in their heads?

For most of the last few years, grammar checkers have been making reasonable suggestions. I don't always agree with them, but they're reasonable.

Recently, it seems like they've all forgotten how English works. All of this supposed #AI they've added, and all I see is them getting dumber.

  20. It is a strange sight when the grammar checker you use to check your English starts correcting your Sanskrit.

Yeah, sure, I know that I'm not using the correct transliteration but a phonetic rendition, but the phonetic rendition I picked is extremely common, and I'm not about to teach how to read transliterated Sanskrit to my readers.

  24. For people who want grammatical checks for free, I recommend LanguageTool. Its basic usage is free, and it does plenty for me. I use it in English and French. There are a few annoyances, but nothing that breaks the camel's back.

(It found two errors in this post before I fixed them. 😬)
