  1. Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) makes Voice Referendum donations disclosures public on 1 April (Easter Monday) [1]

    Anyone know of open data projects that are processing AEC financial disclosure data into more usable/readable forms?

    I'm interested in what the new data will say on how the No campaign was funded.

  2. Was hunting for something and came across this article from my 2015 glory days. Was a great time to be innovating in public safety, and the promise of offline #nearlynet messaging in disaster situations was a fun challenge in 46hrs. #Tremorz #iHelp #app for #Govhack

  3. At a #Govhack presentation last night about Heritage NSW, I asked them what licenses their data is available under. The response: "the state heritage register is open to anyone, and anyone can log on right now and have a look." I think perhaps Govhack need a bit more emphasis on the *open data* part of their spiel!

    I'm still not sure, but it looks like the NSW heritage register is CC-BY, because it doesn't seem to have it's own copyright statement, and is covered by environment.nsw.gov.au/about-u 🤷

  10. @mikejones @Simone66B @bestqualitycrab @Diana_mammalecology @theconversationau I remember that back from my #govhack days - such an excellent source of data that could be overlaid with other data to build a rich picture of an area's ecosystems. In a way, #hackathon like govhack provided an incentive or driver to keep APIs like ALA well-maintained. I wonder what other incentives could be used?

  11. Good evening #folx, and welcome to today's edition of Kathy's #connectionlist #connection #introduction, where I curate a collection of interesting people and surface them - to connect us all more richly and deeply on the #Fediverse.

    @pbone is a Mozillian and I'll be forever grateful to him and the Aussie team who made me so welcome as a part-timer. Thank you, Paul! 🇦🇺

    @venessap is another #Geelong lady and she's also a #PhD candidate and she's a #moderation and #governance specialist 🇦🇺

    @judy2k is class all the way down! Jk, jk, but that is one of my favourite presentations of his. You can catch it here:

    #python #pythonista

    I met @gavintapp through the #opendata and #govhack communities - and he's into #data 🇦🇺

    @rana is new to #Mastodon and I'd like everyone to say hello and make her feel welcome, please. Welcome, Rana! 👋

    @pdcawley has a mighty fine #beard and they are a #folk singer #folksinging. They are also into #bread and #breadmaking. This means they have enough points to become an honorary Melbourne / Naarm person. There's a points system :-) 🇬🇧

    @kimberlee is a Professor of #law in #Sydney and a long-time friend of the Aussie #opensource community 🇦🇺

    @joncruz is amazing and if you've ever used #Inkscape you have Jon to thank. Thank you so much, Jon! Hope you're well! 🇺🇸

    That's all for tonight, but I'll do a list every day until ... well until we don't need to 👋

  12. I'm heading to the #GovHack thing at the state library tonight.

  13. All wrapped up and done with #GovHack for now (not allowed to touch the thing till after judging!) so it's time to go home. Possibly via the pub.

  14. Part of our #GovHack project needs to query Wikidata from within a wiki page, so now we can (in Lua): github.com/samwilson/UnlinkedW

  15. #GovHack day two has begun! It began a few hours ago actually, with breakfast-time paper planning, but now that coffee has come the real work can start, and hopefully the wifi will keep up.

  16. Come and see me MC the #GovHack Australia opening live stream tonight!
