Only two more episodes in my first watch of Goblin Slayer, and I’m a little sad that it will end soon. I’ve grown attached to this anime. It has great character development, story, and intro/outro music.
I’ve even started reading the light novels that the anime is based on. That’s a tad embarrassing to admit, but I’m enjoying them.
(If this piques your interest in the show, please pay attention to the content warnings. There’s some rough and heavy stuff in it.)

I'm watching #GoblinSlayer while waiting for #Frieren episodes to come out; they both highlight the lengthy lifespan of elves, which is interesting to see.
With Frieren, and the loneliness of the multi-thousand year old being is the key point. (Saw the same thing in some of Anne Rice's vampire stories, if I recall correctly.) Loss of personal connections is kind of the underlying theme, in and around all the adventuring.
In Goblin Slayer, the elves have a community and a culture; loneliness isn't the key point. The point is more about what you DO with a lifespan of millennia--not getting married until you're over 8,000 was a throw-away that made me chuckle. But when she's heading back out for more adventuring and the humans ask if her family's ok with her leaving again, she points out that for her family it'll be like she was gone for a few days (similar to Frieren's thinking 80 years was not a long time to be away, while for the humans it's a lifetime).
I don't have anything too deep to say about it, I was just struck by the differences. I guess in both cases it comes down to the importance of social bonds, maybe, and the challenge of making/maintaining them across very different groups of people. 😉

In the second season, three details caught my attention:
① Characters are better developed through dialogues. It's interesting to observe their conversations.
② The plot doesn't overly pursue scale and makes it clear that the heroes are not immortal. While there's not much drama, it's intriguing to watch the key battles.
③ The goblin battles don't take up a lot of screen time, but they still stand out with their hyper-realistic nature.

I watched the second season of the anime "Goblin Slayer."'
I remember how the first season shocked me with its cruelty back in 2019.
Now, the world I see in this anime is not much less cruel than the real world.

The good news about Goblin Slayer II is that it improved upon Season 1 in some ways. Goblin Slayer's character is no longer CGI-animated, and he, Priestess, and High Elf Archer get some development.

The biggest issue I had with Goblin Slayer II is the same as the biggest issue I had with Shield Hero Season 3. The pacing is too fast. It speeds through what could be good arcs.

For an anime series allegedly influenced/based on a DnD campaign, Goblin Slayer II had a surprising lack of dungeon-crawling content.

Goblin Slayer II Episode 12 heavily implies that the Knight of Diamonds is the King. If they're not the same person, it'll be one of the biggest twists in anime history.

My favorite part of Goblin Slayer II Episode 12 was when Sword Maiden faced (not conquered) her fear of goblins. This was some good character growth.

Unfortunately, the quest that sent Goblin Slayer's party into the Dungeon of the Dead in Season 2 Episode 11 already seems to be over. Quests really need to take more time in this series.
