Niche rant alert.
I'm very much enjoying the complaints on Reddit from the Star Citizen players that decide to go and run missions in *the lawless system* and then get blown up for no reason by bored players. "there should be dedicated PvP servers" - there are - they serve *THE LAWLESS SYSTEM* you were in.
It's just like the WoW players that used to try Eve Online, and sink all of their cash into a ship and then take it somewhere dangerous, get it blown up, and then whine on the forums that the game's broken. Except Eve was brave enough to implement full loss, whereas you lose nothing in Star Citizen when you blow up apart from time (and now potentially a small amount of cash).
And for full disclosure, I'm a carebear - I'm rubbish at PvP stuff, always have been. But I *like* the risk element of trying to operate in scary places. I also respect the developers for creating worlds like this (I still regard Eve as one of the pinnacles of online video gaming).
Star Citizen has recently put a trade route into the game (i.e. they tinkered with prices for commodities) that means you can earn buckets of cash buying low, transporting, and selling very high. However there are only 2 places offering the very high prices, and they're in Pyro (the lawless system). Apparently the constant battles for control around these two locations is creating some great gameplay - mass ship-to-ship combat, combined arms efforts, lone wolves zipping in amongst the chaos, etc. This is exactly what sandbox games should do - encourage emergent gameplay. These are stories people will remember. No one really remembers "that time 5 of us did that mission in a protected instance".
We need more reasons to go to Pyro - make rare minerals more likely to appear there. Put all (or most) of the shady traders there. Have the outposts offer to buy commodities at higher prices (like food and water and medical supplies). I think CIG know this, but it's frustrating that they don't seem to want to lean into it much (without apparently needing complex changes to the game).
