"This rising #Russian social #conservative movement frequently invokes the argument that #ProGay and #WomensRights groups are puppets of the West, which is seeking to undermine Russian autonomy and interfere in the country’s internal affairs. At an annual meeting of journalists and academics presided over by Vladimir #Putin in Valdai in September, the Russian president said that European countries had strayed from their roots by legalizing #GayMarriage. He urged Russians to embrace the conservative values of the #OrthodoxChurch and other traditional religions and issued a warning to those who might want to challenge those values. 'Russia’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity are unconditional—these are red lines no one is allowed to cross,' he declared.

"Several #LGBT rights groups have been targeted under another new law, which requires any nongovernmental organization that receives funding from other countries for political activities to register as a '#ForeignAgent.' Failure to do so can lead to investigations, legal action or crippling fines. The implication is that these groups are not only agents of the West but also out of touch with everyday Russians.

"The irony is that it is the new conservative vanguard—anti-gay, anti-abortion and pro–'#TraditionalFamily'—that has most successfully cultivated the West’s financial and institutional support. Scott Lively, an extreme anti-gay campaigner, all but took credit for the new law, calling it 'one of the proudest achievements of my career,' while #BrianBrown, president of the #NationalOrganizationForMarriage, visited Moscow with much fanfare just before the new law was passed. But the language of Russia’s anti-gay and anti-abortion movement seems to borrow most heavily from mainstream evangelicals and conservative politicians in the United States and Europe. Referring to the anti-abortion bill passed in 2011, Lyubov Erofeeva, executive director of the Russian Association for Population and Development, a women’s advocacy group, said: 'It was 100 percent clear that everything was copied from the experience of American #fundamentalists and conservative circles of several European countries where #abortion is forbidden or restricted severely.'

"The church’s close ties with American evangelicals reflect a shift in policy. For much of the post-Soviet period, the Russian Orthodox Church held evangelical denominations at arm’s length, fearing that they would compete for influence within Russia. But as the church has consolidated its power, it has come to view the evangelical community as a partner. 'The #ROC realizes that the evangelical denominations are not their opponents but rather their allies in the relations between the church and the secular population,' says Olga Kazmina, a professor of ethnology at Moscow State University.

" 'It’s a re-envisioned paradigm,' says Father #LeonidKishkovsky, head of the Orthodox Church in America’s Department of External Affairs. In many ways, it makes sense, he adds: both religious groups share an ideological commitment and have grown disillusioned with the way mainline churches have dealt with issues like gay marriage and abortion. 'But what I’m quite nervous about is the ideological core which actually motivates both sides,' Kishkovsky says. 'Where is the motivating force? Is it in faith? Or is it in political ideology?'

"The Russian Orthodox Church’s chief emissary to the US evangelical community is #HilarionAlfeyev, a high-ranking bishop and chairman of the powerful Department of External Church Relations (the position previously held by #PatriarchKirill). In February 2011, the 47-year-old Alfeyev traveled to Washington, where he met with prominent evangelical and 'pro-family' leaders; and then to Dallas, where he addressed thousands of members of the Highland Park Presbyterian Church and emphasized the importance of 'creat[ing] new alliances,' especially around issues of marriage, abortion and the family. Alfeyev also visited the #DallasTheologicalSeminary and had an hour-long meeting with #GeorgeWBush.

"The trip to Dallas grew out of an increasingly close friendship between church leaders and a small circle of American and European Christian businessmen in Moscow. Alfeyev’s visit was organized by #JerryFullinwider, an #OilExecutive and elder of the #HighlandParkChurch who, until recently, had business interests in Russia. Fullinwider, a member of the #KochBrothers’ circle of major donors—those who have given more than $1 million to #Koch-related causes—met Alfeyev through his friend Bob Foresman, head of #Barclays Capital in Russia. This select group of businessmen has unusual access to Alfeyev. In an interview for this article, Fullinwider described having dinner at Alfeyev’s private residence on a recent trip to Moscow. 'He’s a real busy guy,' says Fullinwider. 'He’s very, very hard to get in touch with unless you have a special number and you know the main guy who handles him, who’s a good friend of mine.'

"Alfeyev’s first trip to the United States paved the way for others, and in October 2012 he delivered a lecture at Villanova University, where he received an honorary degree and paid a visit to the Milwaukee-based #LyndeAndHarryBradleyFoundation. One of the largest donor organizations of its kind in the United States, the #BradleyFoundation, with more than $600 million in assets, is known for its contributions to US conservative groups like the #HeritageFoundation and the #HeartlandInstitute. But its charity isn’t limited to home: over the last four years, the foundation has given $750,000 to the St. Gregory the Theologian Charity Foundation in Moscow, a new educational and cultural initiative founded in 2009 by Alfeyev, Russian #billionaire and pharmaceutical magnate #VadimYakunin, and #LeonidSevastianov, a 35-year-old international business consultant and head of Stratinvest.ru, a consulting and public relations firm. In 2009, through Alfeyev’s charity, the Bradley Foundation donated $150,000 to support the 'Day of the Family,' a recently created Russian holiday honoring faith and fidelity. The annual event has been championed by #SvetlanaMedvedeva, wife of Prime Minister #DmitriMedvedev, a staunch #AntiAbortion advocate.

“We want to promote the idea of the unity between the West and Russia on the basis of common Christian roots,” Sevastianov told Inside the Vatican magazine in 2009. “We believe in this alliance among traditional Christian countries…and we believe that, with a united voice, we can be a strong force against the radical secular world which has become dominant in our societies.”

Merz hat’s schon wieder getan

Friedrich Merz hat seine ganz besondere Auffassung vom Völkerrecht. In Sachen Ukaine gilt es für ihn, im Fall Irans offensichtlich nicht. Sein Auftritt beim Bundesverband der deutschen Industrie knüpfte an seine Dampfplauderei nach dem G-7 Gipfel an: Man wird doch wohl noch sagen dürfen…

Diese Haltung ist in rechten bis rechtsextremen Kreisen weit verbreitet, aber der Bundeskanzler hat immer noch nicht begriffen, dass er auf das Grundgesetz vereidigt wurde, das ihn in besonderer Weise zum Frieden und zum Erhalt des Frieden verpflichtet. Aufgrund unserer Vergangenheit, den Überfällen auf Frankreich, Polen, Russland und viele andere Länder. Ja, und es gibt auch ein besonderes Verhältnis zu Israel, das aus unserer Geschichte erwächst und Solidarität erfordert. Aber keine blinde Solidarität für eine rechtsextreme Regierung Israels und auch nicht zur Zustimmung, wenn diese Regierung gegen das Völkerrecht verstößt.

So geht Solidarität mit Israel nicht

Beim BDI wurde nach seinem Statement gefragt, und ob er denn die Phrase “erledigen die Drecksarbeit für uns” so wiederholen würde.  Schon holte er gegen die Einwände der Völkerrechtswidrigkeit aus: “Iran sei DAS Terroregime der Welt – es habe erneut gegen die Verabredungen aus dem Atomwaffensperrvertrag verstoßen und nun vor ein paar Tagen das angereicherte Uran irgendwohin verbracht –  die Indikatoren deuteten seit Wochen, Monaten und Jahren daraufhin, dass der Iran die Bombe wolle – niemand brauche für Atomreaktoren höher als 60% angereichertes Uran – Iran sei ein Regime, das uns alle bedroht – um das zu beurteilen, dazu genüge reines Zeitungswissen…” (!!!)...”weshalb er nicht den Angriff Israels und der USA kritisiere”, sondern der “auch in unserem Interesse richtig ist.”

Deutschland hat ein Interesse an der UNO und am Recht

George W. Bush hat sich vor Beginn des Irakkrieges wenigstens noch die Mühe gegeben, den UN-Sicherheitsrat davon zu überzeugen, dass Saddam Hussein biologische und chemische Waffen besitze. “Sorry, I’m not convinced”- der historische Ausspruch des deutschen Außenministers Joschka Fischer. Wenige Jahre  und fast 5.000 tote und über 22.000 verletzte US-Soldaten sowie hunderttausende tote Iraker später stellte sich heraus, dass Verteidigungsminister Powell der UNO gefälschte Beweise vorgelegt hatte. Und heute reicht zur Beurteilung des Irans “Zeitungswissen” aus? Womöglich noch der “Bild”-Zeitung? Wenn ein deutscher Bundeskanzler nach solchen Kategorien Regierungsentscheidungen trifft, wird er zum Sicherheitsrisiko. 

Unzulässige Vereinfachungen

Er versteht nicht, dass er als Bundeskanzler nicht mehr schwallen kann, wie ein Blackrock-Berater beim Grillen mit Nachbarn in Paderborn. Dass er ganz beiläufig das Völkerrecht mit zweierlei Maß misst und damit den Konflikt in seiner Komplexität und den möglichen Folgen für die Zukunft offensichtlich gar nicht begreift, muss ernste Sorge bereiten. Denn das Völkerrecht schützt die Schwächeren und die Bundesrepublik und auch die EU gehören militärisch weltweit auch zu den Schwächeren.  Friedrich Merz verbrämt das alles mit einer “jetzt sag ich mal endlich die Wahrheit” Mentalität, dass er endlich ausspricht was so viele “normale” denken und das ist unappetitlich. Merz’ Erinnerungsvermögen scheint zudem nicht weit zu reichen – zu Trumps erster Amtszeit.

Trumps Kündigung des Atomabkommens mit Iran ursächlich

Es war Donald Trump, der 2017 aus dem Atomabkommen mit dem Iran ausgestiegen ist und die Folge war, dass die Atomkontrolleure eben nicht mehr den selben Einfluss behielten und dieselbe Transparenz fordern konnten, die erforderlich ist, um zu kontrollieren, ob der Iran eine Atombombe baut. Kim Jong Un und Nordkorea sind das beste Beispiel, was passiert, wenn man “Schurkenstaaten” aus den Verträgen lässt – sie besorgen sich die Bombe irgendwie illegal. Insofern hat Trump selbst die heutige Situation eines Iran, der außer Kontrolle zu geraten droht, mit zu verantworten.

Trumps Faustrecht verteidigt

Letztlich hat Merz mit seinen Äußerungen Deutschland und der EU nicht genützt, sondern geschadet. Wie will er nach diesen Äußerungen noch begründen, dass Deutschland und die EU die Rolle eines Vermittlers im Konflikt spielen könnten, wenn er sich derartig wie ein diplomatischer Elefant im Porzellanladen einseitig aus dem Fenster hängt? Dies ohne Not, denn weder bei Netanjahu, noch Trump kann Merz so Punkte gewinnen. Dagegen im Nahen Osten schon. Merz und Wadephul sind auf dem besten Wege, den – man muss schon sagen trotz Annalena Baerbock – noch guten Namen der Deutschen bei den Palästinensern und arabischen Staaten endgültig zu verspielen. Was Trump von den Verhandlungskompetenzen der EU hält, hat er Samstag nacht mit 14 Bomben gezeigt.

Regierung Merz ohne außenpolitisches Konzept

Die Regierung Merz schafft es, die Vorgängerregierung noch an außenpolitischer Konzeptionslosigkeit um Längen zu unterbieten. Bei aller Kritik an der “feministischen Außenpolitik” Baerbocks hat sie doch wenigstens ein erkennbares Konzept verfolgt. Was die CDU/CSU, die erstmalig seit Adenauer und Kiesinger wieder allein die Außenpolitik bestimmt, eigentlich will, ist nicht erkennbar.

Deutschland könnte in Palästina vermitteln

Anstatt Trump und Netanjahu Beifall zu klatschen und diplomatische Bemühungen in Sachen Iran zu vergeigen, könnte sich Deutschland zum Beispiel für eine Lösung für die Palästinenser und die Wiedereröffnung einer Chance für die 2-Staaten-Lösung und mehr Humanität in Gaza stark machen. Niemand als Deutschland ist (noch) auf beiden Seiten so angesehen wie die Bundesrepublik. Es hätte Gewicht, wenn der Bundeskanzler nach Israel und zu den Palästinensern reiste, um in diplomatischen Gesprächen mit Israel zu versuchen, die illegale jüdische Siedlungspolitik im Westjordanland in den internationalen Fokus zu rücken damit diplomatisch Druck auf die Rechtsextremen in der israelischen Regierung auszuüben. Anstatt Netanjahu völkerrechtswidrig in Deutschland zu empfangen und dem Zugriff des internationalen Gerichtshofs zu entziehen. Solche Gespräche könnten helfen, demokratische Kräfte in Palästina zu identifizieren, die z.B. mit Hilfe von den in Israel tätigen Stiftungen in den Bemühungen um demokratische Entwicklung unterstützt werden könnten. Aber das ist für Merz zu klein. Er möchte lieber “mit den großen Hunden pissen gehen” – die ihn dafür aber nicht brauchen.

Nachtrag 24.6. 1:48 Uhr MEZ: Donald Trump hat auf seinem asozialen Netzwerk eine Waffenruhe mit dem Iran verkündet, an die sich auch Netanjahu halten soll. Der “große Hund” ist ohne Merz pissen gegangen.

Its crown jewel, the Guantánamo Bay detention center, was established in January 2002 as a place for the United States to hold so-called enemy combatants.

"The U.S. government chose the U.S. Naval Station Guantánamo Bay because it was seeking a site where neither U.S. nor international law applied — a legal black hole where they could disappear people indefinitely. Over time, Guantánamo became emblematic of gross human rights abuses. “Forever prisoners” of the war on terror are still being held there today. Others caught up in America’s counterterrorism dragnet were detained at torture prisons in Afghanistan and Iraq or kidnapped and 'rendered' to CIA black sites — secret prisons in at least eight countries around the world.

So, whenever I think about #Stuxnet, I recall how a journalist in Japan, #YoichiShimatsu, wrote about possible #Israeli Stuxnet sabotage at #Fukushima -- which caused some critical systems to fail. Many derided Shimatsu's theories as "Conspiracy Theories," but there may be a grain of truth in them -- especially given what happened with the recent #Malware attack on pagers in #Lebanon...

Journalist Accuses Israel of Fukushima Sabotage

"A leading Japanese journalist recently made two incredible claims about the Fukushima power plant that suffered a nuclear meltdown in March 2011, sending shockwaves around the world. First, the former editor of a national newspaper in Japan says the U.S. and Israel knew Fukushima had #weaponsgrade #uranium and #plutonium that were exposed to the atmosphere after a massive tsunami wave hit the reactor. Second, he contends that Israeli intelligence sabotaged the reactor in retaliation for Japan’s support of an independent #Palestinian state.

"According to Yoichi Shimatsu, a former editor of Japan Times Weekly, these nuclear materials were shipped to the plant in 2007 on the orders of Dick #Cheney and #GeorgeWBush, with the connivance of Israeli Prime Minister #EhudOlmert. The shipment was in the form of warhead cores secretly removed from the U.S. nuclear warheads facility BWXT #Plantex near Amarillo, Texas. While acting as the middleman, Israel transported warheads from the port of Houston, and in the process kept the best ones while giving the Japanese older warhead cores that had to be further enriched at Fukushima.

"Shimatsu credits retired #CIA agent and mercenary Roland #VincentCarnaby with learning the warheads were being transported from Houston. In a strange twist, Carnaby was mysteriously shot dead less than a year later by Houston police at a traffic stop. He was shot once in the back and once in the chest. He did not have a weapon in his hands.

"Intelligence sources said he had been tracking a #Mossad unit that was smuggling U.S. plutonium out of Houston docks for an Israeli nuclear reactor.

"In an even more explosive charge, the journalist says that 20 minutes before the Fukushima plant’s nuclear meltdown, Israel was so upset with Japanese support for a Palestinian declaration of statehood that it double-crossed Japan by unleashing the Stuxnet virus on the plant’s computers. The virus hampered the shutdown, leading to fallout from a section of the plant housing uranium and plutonium retrieved from the warheads supplied in 2007.

"While it is impossible to verify some of Shimatsu’s claims, there was a massive cover-up at the time of the Fukushima disaster in March [TRUE!!!]. Explosions at the site were immediately downplayed. While it was subsequently reported that three reactors suffered meltdowns, Japanese authorities tried to rate the disaster as a Level 4 on the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale, although outside experts declared it a 7, which is the highest level.

"Something worth noting is how in 2009, two years after Shimatsu says the warheads were secretly moved to Japan, the International Atomic Energy Agency (#IAEA) issued a veiled warning to Japan not to abandon its #AntiNuclear weapons policy.

"The IAEA had to know, however, that Japan has long retained the potential to build #NuclearWeapons. That was made clear as far back as 1996 when a leaked Ministry of Foreign Affairs document exposed how Japan had been promoting a dual strategy in respect to nuclear weapons since the mid-1960s. It would often publicly profess a non-nuclear policy while maintaining the ability to build a nuclear arsenal. The Liberal Democratic Party, which has dominated Japanese politics, has always said there is no constitutional impediment to nukes.

"A factor that undoubtedly would have encouraged the Bush-Cheney White House to provide Japan with the means to secretly build nukes was the growing power of China. Cheney and Bush sought to arm Japan and India with nuclear weapons as a means of curbing China."

Newly declassified memos from former President George W. Bush and then-incoming President Barack Obama revealed that while W touted the "soul" of the Russian president, he acknowledged that the relationship had "soured" and they were looking to go after Ukraine.

The New York Times reported on the newly revealed memos saying warning five years prior to the annexation of Crimea, Russia was ready to pounce.
