My final #GelliPlate #monoprint for the day. A façade in #Osaka
I printed one of my photos, transferred it onto a gel plate, painted it after it dried on the plate, then brayered a layer of white and transferred it onto a background paper I had prepared previously. It's on Daiso rice paper intended for practicing calligraphy.
I'm so happy I can finally do this! It took so many attempts over the past weeks that now my brand new printer complains about toner!

Today, finally, finally some #monoprint success.
I was desperately trying to get my laser printer photos to print via the #GelliPlate and it succeeded! The missing ingredient (besides conditioning the plate with baby oil, having the printer print 3 times onto the same paper, and lifting the print very fast) was to switch paints. Amsterdam oxide black did the trick.
I left the print to dry onto the paper and peeled the plate off the print.
Also experimented with a posca pen.

I've been trying to transfer images from a laser printer onto a gel plate, and then onto a background paper.
Today I finally had one successful failure where I got the image onto the plate, but after that I failed to get if off it without messing it up.
I got annoyed and tried something else. This print here is a partially successful transfer using a magazine page.
Still not sure what I'm doing wrong but it's time for a break.
At least there's progress.

Looking for your favorite #printmaking learning resources - books or websites! (text preferred over video)
Particularly interested in #linocut and/or #gelliPlate printing info.
I’m starting from scratch here, so beginner stuff is welcome, but also don’t mind super deep dives!
Also if you have a favourite non Amazon supplier for supplies that won’t break the bank, feel free to drop those in as well!

For some reason I'd been resisting getting a third gel plate to keep at my partner's place, but I finally caved and picked one up today. With the coupons I had, I only ended up paying $11 for it.
I managed to pick up a bunch of half price acrylic paint and gel medium as well, making my start up cost for my art kit up here rather reasonable.

Tried out a new technique on the gel plate today where I used Play-Doh to make an impression of a texture and then used it like a stamp on the plate.
This one was of one of those Mardi Gras bead necklaces.
Seems like a great technique to take impressions of textures that aren't on a flat surface or textures of objects that you don't want to cover in paint.
Super excited to try this out more!

Did I justify buying myself an 8x10 gel plate to make print a photo I took of my best friend wearing a V for Vendetta mask at one of his shows last summer for his birthday?

Today's gel plate experiments were mostly different types of textures, like the under side of a Lego block. Started cutting my paper in half because I was feeling like I was being wasteful by printing 5x7s on 8.5x11s, and that made me feel like I was being kinda prolific.... I must have made about 50 pages today. 😅
It'll be fun to use these down the line...

OMG! I finally had success doing a gel print transfer from a laser print!! I turned a photo I took of my cat with a comic book style filter into a print! This is so fun!

Most of my gel plate experiments so far have felt more like creating abstract papers to be used in elsewhere in collages rather than feeling like a finished piece all on its own... but this one might be!

After binge watching gelli plate print tutorials for two days, I wandered myself to the craft store and bought myself a gelli plate and a brayer and spent the afternoon experimenting with making what will probably be collage papers, but who knows?
I'm looking forward to digging more into the technique, it looks like it has the potential for some really neat effects.

I'm exploring #GelliPlate printing again and am practicing restrained mark-making on the finished collage. It's so easy to get carried away with paint, but I love when the background shines through and the drips and splatter are the accents, not the main show.

I had a little fun interpreting the #printerSolstice prompt unity both literally and figuratively. In mathematics unity of course means 1. This 1 is a linocut and I built up the background with layers of colour on my gel plate. The pattern and textures in the background also give the print unity.

Day 20 #ArtAdventCalendar is Supernova. One of 3 monotypes of a supernova remnant on watercolour paper, 6” by 8”. Each one was built up from layers of ink on a gel plate.
The delicate yet bright colours of the nebula are hard to capture!
