ALERTA –Transphobic and racist European MEP Christine Anderson giving talk in Montreal
Christine Anderson, European Member of Parliament with the far-right, anti-immigrant Alternative für Deutschland political party is currently embarking on a “Strong and Free” tour of Canadian cities to show her support for last year’s Freedom Convoy, and against vaccines and sanitary measures.

Anderson is situated at the dangerous intersection of classic anti-immigrant far-right racism and the newer anti-mask, anti-vaccine populist movement and needs to be met with resistance wherever she goes. Her affiliation to PEGIDA (Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the Occident) and her membership with AfD (a political party which is staunchly xenophobic), along with her dehumanizing transphobic videos, are dangerous for our communities.
The Montreal event is publicized as a 325$ Cocktail Dinner being held at Gallery Gora (279 Sherbrooke West #205) on February 24th at 5pm. We invite people to contact the gallery ahead of time to pressure them to cancel the event – they can be contacted at [email protected] or 514-879-9694.

Christine Anderson, une députée au parlement européen pour le parti d’extrême droite et anti-immigrant Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), effectue actuellement une tournée des grandes villes canadiennes intitulée « Strong and Free », où elle réitérera vraisemblablement son soutien pour le soi-disant « Convoi de la liberté » et son opposition à la vaccination et aux mesures sanitaires, en plus de promouvoir ses politiques xénophobes et antimusulmanes.

Anderson se situe à l’intersection inquiétante du racisme d’extrême droite classique et du plus récent mouvement populiste d’opposition aux masques et aux vaccins, et ne serait-ce que pour ces raisons, devrait au minimum être dénoncée et faire l’objet d’une résistance antiraciste partout où elle va. Par son association passée avec le mouvement islamophobe PEGIDA (Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the Occident) et son appartenance au parti AfD, un parti profondément xénophobe, en plus de ses propres vidéos où elle exprime ouvertement sa transphobie, Christine Anderson présente un danger immédiat pour nos communautés.
L’événement montréalais de sa tournée canadienne est présenté comme un cocktail dînatoire à 325 $ le couvert, lequel doit se tenir à la Galerie Gora (279 Sherbrooke Ouest, suite 205), le 24 février à 17 h.
Renseignements au sujet de Christine Anderson :
• Madame Anderson est députée du parti AfD, qui porte des politiques anti-immigration et est largement reconnu comme l’un des principaux partis de l’extrême droite en Europe [https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternative_pour_l%27Allemagne];
• Elle s’est auparavant associée au mouvement antimusulman PEGIDA (Européens patriotes contre l’islamisation de l’Occident), que Wikipedia décrit comme « un mouvement allemand de droite populiste (rechtspopulistisch), qui défend le nationalisme allemand, est anti-islam, d’extrême droite et opposé à l’immigration. »
• Elle exprime une hostilité ouverte à l’égard des personnes trans.
• Elle a exprimé son appui au mouvement canadien du « Convoi de la liberté », qui a paralysé le centre-ville d’Ottawa à l’hiver 2022 pour réclamer la fin des mesures sanitaires liées à la COVID-19.
• Elle milite activement contre la vaccination et contre les mesures sanitaires mises en place par les gouvernements pour lutter contre la pandémie de COVID-19.

C’est vraisemblablement pour répandre ici ces idées toxiques – l’opposition à l’immigration, l’islamophobie, le nationalisme populiste et raciste, l’hostilité aux transidentités, les théories dangereuses sur les mesures sanitaires, etc. – que Christine Anderson effectue sa tournée canadienne.
Ces idées, et les politicien•nes qui les portent, représentent des menaces à la sécurité et au bien-être de nombreux membres de notre collectivité et de nos communautés : les personnes de confession musulmane, les personne (im)migrantes et réfugiées, les personnes noires et racisées, les personnes trans et membres d’autres minorités sexuelles et de genre, et de manière plus générale, les membres de la collectivité qui portent une vision progressiste, d’inclusion et de sain vivre ensemble pour la société montréalaise et québécoise.
Le climat est de plus en plus hostile à l’immigration, aux personnes musulmanes et aux mouvements antiracistes, actuellement, au Québec, et nous croyons que la venue d’une politicienne et militante clairement associée à l’extrême droite raciste et xénophobe ne peut qu’exacerber une situation déjà tendue. L’histoire nous a montré que ce genre de discours mène très souvent à des actions violentes contre les communautés marginalisées.
