  1. Four Points Toronto Mississauga

Canada, Four Points, Marriott Bonvoy, Select

Albeit without the word “airport” in its name, the few occasions I experienced this hotel did all somewhat involve YYZ, thanks to the free shuttle the hotel offered. So, I’m going to review this hotel as an airport stopover hotel, and from that point of view, I have to say this hotel is, after the most recent renovation, does not deserve the 3.8/5 rating on Marriott’s website.

To be honest, the hotel is located a bit farther from YYZ than I would have liked – about 15-20 minutes on the road. However, parking was free, and a shuttle was provided (do note that shuttle is only free for the initial arrival and departure after check-out, additional usages may incur a fee), so not exactly a big problem. The front office team were consistently professional, friendly and thorough, and though the hotel did not have any proper “suites”, elite upgrades were still as generous as can be.

    Room overview

I was given a studio suite with a kitchenette during my last stay. Size-wise it wasn’t the largest, however it was indeed a proper studio – there was a half kitchen, a full-size fridge and freezer, as well as another sitting area in the corner.

The hotel itself was renovated a few years ago, but there were still hints from the old time. One example would be the tub-shower combination in the bathroom, while in other select service properties most renovation projects opted for shower rooms. However, I did quite like the new vanity countertop.

The hotel also offered a restaurant and bar, but I was only able to experience their breakfast. To be fair, I did get my breakfast for free, but had I paid full buffet price, I would have been very disappointed – even borderline angry. The selection was pretty awful for a paid buffet, food was always barely luke warm, and service was virtually non-existent apart from the initial greeting.

That being said, with the good service, free parking, decent rooms and most importantly, the consistently lower room rates than most other YYZ hotels that offer a shuttle, I would definitely still consider this hotel for my next YYZ stopover, especially if I have a car again.
