It's been a while since my previous #MondayCovers entry. Here's an old favorite of mine, a Finnish language cover version of the classic John Fogerty composition "Fortunate Son". The video clip was filmed at the Old Studenthouse in Helsinki:
Kari Peitsamo Revival: Onnenpoika (1982)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1LkolDIWSQPeitsamo became first known in the late 1970s as a singer/songwriter, coming up with a stream of simple songs with highly original lyrics, often performed with very sparse instrumentation.
However, in 1982 he decided to form a new band, Kari Peitsamo Revival, which concentrated on playing and recording cover versions of the old CCR hits, the lyrics of which were heavily localized to fit the contemporary Finnish context. Later they expanded their repertoire to include Status Quo covers as well.
Although the Revival period lasted only for a few years, Peitsamo continued to be a regular fixture at the Ämy rock festivals, which were organized on non-commercial basis in my home town, Hämeenlinna. Unfortunately I didn't see the Kari Peitsamo Revival performances, but I did catch him several times in the later years, with other bands.
Peitsamo's later years have been somewhat erratic, and he has never enjoyed a great deal of commercial success. Nevertheless, he has issued more than 50 albums, sometimes playing solo, sometimes with backup musicians. According to a story, one of his albums was recorded while the engineer went out for a lunch break, and the record actually takes a longer time to play than it took to record it, as there were breaks inserted between the songs afterwards.

CW: USPol, Fortunate Son
I feel this song is the song of the times now that a draft dodger is running another war against a china backed country talking about reinstating the draft. Written in a fit of rage about the unjustness of the Vietnam War and that a senator's son had gotten out of the draft because he was a senator's son.
I'm really starting to see how much of protest music is really sung with false ironic positivity. Bruttosocialprodukt Geier Sturzflug, 99 Luftballoons Nena, or even more from the same band, Bad Moon Rising was about Nixon winning. All song with the false positivity that you would hear from your relatives or the media back then.

It’s an old meme someone repurposed for the current ranting of the Mango Mussolini. Ya sure know none of his family will sit in that recruiter’s chair.

@jonberger I think it was very intentional!

I was initially flabbergasted that the band at Trump's parade played "Fortunate Son." That could, of course, have been a screwup by someone who either didn't listen to the lyrics or did but ignored all of them other than "hail to the chief." But I choose to believe that the band's setlist was put together by someone in the actual military who knew perfectly well what the song is about, and included it as a not-so-subtle dig at the whole bone spurs thing.
