I called in at RSPB Nagshead yesterday and saw no wildflowers there at all. Not one. But I had more luck elsewhere in Parkend while stopping to get some food. This one looks to be Barren Strawberry. #WildflowerHour #ForestOfDean #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography

We were asked for #GardenEscapes this week for #WildflowerHour. Lots of escaped Primroses in the #ForestOfDean yesterday, growing in streets near houses that had them planted in their gardens. This one at the old #Lydney Town station looks to be a garden variety with its deeper colour. #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers

A 14 mile Cinderford circular today, wandering in the hills on the eastern edge of the Forest of Dean, via Soudley, Little Dean and Edgehills, taking in five hills, one mossy trig, and two hillforts, Soudley Camp and Welshbury. The latter is an absolute gem, a well preserved multivallate woodland treasure.

Off to the Forest of Dean for today's #StandingStoneSunday offering; The Long Stone near Staunton.
It's right next to a busy road, but if you can block that out it's a really lovely, tapering 7 foot tall stone in a beautiful woodland setting. (Portrait, needs a click)
In folklore, if you prick the stone with a pin at the stroke of midnight, it will bleed.
Visited October 2010.
