Years ago, I once posted a recipe for chokecherry jam and a guy flipped out on me, telling me that chokecherries are deadly poison. I told him that he was wrong, and that chokecherries were eaten by my ancestors for thousands of years. They are an ingredient in pemmican. Dude went off the fricking rails so hard he had me second-guessing myself. And I grew up foraging.

I've been having fun the past couple days checking out and adding to https://beta.fallingfruit.org - an amazing resource for foragers the world over. I'm not adding my fave spots because I selfishly would like to keep them sekrit, mwahaha, and hopefully I'll get over that because seriously, there's wild food in abundance all over the city and this scarcity mindset does nobody any good.

I'm a #forager. I go out into fields, and woods and head to the seashore to find #wildfood. Spring is an exhilerating season because it's like the land releases an elongated shivering yawn and things pop up out of - what appears to be - nowhere.

The problem with unending hair growth for early humans, is that it would literally trip up our ancestors. This could spell trouble both when running from predators and running in when killing prey.
Indeed, back then, I bet baldness was prized. So too would be hair breakage before the hair gets too long. While both are seen as a problem by some today, they could have literally saved your life back in the stone age.
The one advantage of unending hair growth is that it might take decades to become as long as its person. It could be like an old age pension. If you’re so old that you trip over your hair, then you can stay home and do lesser tasks than hunting. The rest of the clan would have to hunt and forage for you.
So it is my bet, that the first thing that stone tools were developed for, would have been to cut our hair. If you were going back in time to such an era, you could bring along a good pair of scissors. They might be prized over other tools.
I envision the first tools may have been a stone that came to a point. This way, you could put the hair to be cut against flat rock and bash the sharp end of the stone against the hair. This would have been both the first barbershop and the first hair salon.
Only after making the tool to cut hair would we realize it had other uses. Like to kill and skin prey, So I am thinking this may have been the very first tool that humanity made and used, So the first profession after forager might have been the barber or hairdresser.

I walked almost 5 km today. This is less than my average from before I got sick. It made me a little bit tired, but not too bad. I also went picking apples. I’ve been picking apples every week, and making apple butter, cider, pies, and dried apples. Next up, apple sauce. I’ve lived here since 2016 and I’ve never seen anyone else pick from this tree. I went hiking with @Knightky in the woods near Guelph. I saw something glowing white and round as a redhead’s untanned arse. I got soooo excited. A really fun find! My best guess is the aptly named lurid bolete (Boletus luridus) is working it's color changing magic for us.
Spotted on a night walk in September once the hunters leave the forest, in France.
Mushroom features:
nearly 15 cm across
Brownish top,
yellow-green tubes
Turns very blue on cutting
habitat - mixed beech + hornbeam woodland on calcareous soil, autumn
