Calendula for what's inflamed. Raspberry leaf for what's cycling. The body keeps score. Tend it like the land tends itself — without asking permission.

  6. #FolkMedicine #ElderlyDiet

We're finding #Kale (as we use it; lots and with the stalks chopped up and steamed too) more effective than other steamed #LeafyGreens in keeping away from #Constipation.

This is not a RCT, nor direct comparison of fresh or dried types of leafy greens by weight or volume.

Added benefit: We claim, on the basis of "It feels good to say it", that leafy greens are improving complexions. 😃

Here's a list of what we've got in place to address general health and dementia.

These are not all #MainstreamMedicine, some could be classed as #AlternativeMedicine, some as #ExperimentalMedicine, #WeaklyEvidencedMedicine, #FolkMedicine, or elements of #MoralityTherapy.

    Expanding on that good advice:

    And tell them or your doctor if they ask about any #AlternativeMedicine, #FolkMedicine, #TraditionalMedicine, #CulturalMedicine, #Supplements, #Homeopathy and/or #Herbs that you're taking.

(And ignore any person who tries to interfere with clear patient-doctor communication.)

  13. Working on my first semi-weekly herbal journal! This practice should prompt me to prioritize and refine my learnings while producing informative posts. <3

  14. According to Danish folklore, elves known as the Elle-people had poisonous breath, and cows grazing where these elves had been could become sick. However, the disease could be cured with a handful of St. John's wort collected at midnight on St. John's Night. #WyrdWednesday

  15. `A simple remedy for the relief of pan in the neck: take the roots of celandines and pound them together with fennel, garlic, wine or vinegar and a little butter. apply this as a poultice to the nap and the pain and swelling will disperse. 17. The wild herb #Geranium robertianum was introduced early in #gardens because of #FolkMedicine. It's rich in tannins and essential oils. Therefore I love it for #EcoDyeing and #EcoPrinting. As a child, I believed that its seeds can fly like a bird. In German it's named stinkender #Storchschnabel, stinking stork beak, for the form of the fruits. Geranium's #cranesbills are also bec de grue (crane) in France, but in Alsace bec de cigogne (stork)! #florespondence #WildHerbs #NatureMatchCuts

  18. `Put the [rosemary] flowers or leaves under your head in bed, and you will not be troubled with disagreeable dreams, or oppressed with anxiety of mind. ' - Meddygon Myddfai, Welsh, 13th century

  19. Jelly Ears! So named as they look suspiciously similar to human ears!

They are usually a brown/red/purply-pink colour and covered in tiny grey hairs that make them look velvety.

They can be eaten but are usually added to meals for textures sake rather than taste! Although it does have folk medicinal uses too - as part of a poultice on an eye injury or to sooth a sore throat!

    A very cool little fun-guy 😎

    Oh! And Happy Monday!

THE HEALING SOIL OF THE BOHO HIGHLANDS

For many centuries soil from the local churchyard of the Boho Highlands in Ireland were said to beneficial for curing infections, particularly of the skin, teeth and throat when applied topically.
Bad luck was said to befall people that didnt return the soil to the churchyard after using it.

There is evidence the site was populated by druids 1500 years ago and the churchyard was possibly built atop a pre-christian sacred site.

Investigations into the claims by a team at Swansea University found that the soil contained a previously unknown strain of bacteria that have highly effective antibiotic properties.

They have named the new strain Streptomyces sp. myrophorea, and early lab testing has found them very effective against the top 4 antibiotic resistant pathogens.
