A little commercial flight story: I was near the end of an LAX-SJC hop on a 737, flying over Monterey Bay at about 10k feet. I had a window seat looking forward out the window when I noticed an object coming towards us. It resolved quickly into a cluster of party balloons. I watched as the strings connected with the wing perhaps 10 feet from the engine intake, then slide away.
I told the flight attendant about it and her exact response was “I don’t want to hear it.”
