  1. I don't remember ever having seen Indian beans, not this corner of the world anyway. Very tasty, I'm not a cupping champion, and usually drink milky drinks but this is definitely more like those "classic" flavor profile espresso roasts (compared to the usual, milder, lighter roasts I drink).

renegadefarmers.eu if someone wants to check out the roastery (it's on Saaremaa island in the Baltic Sea, lots of mainly German tourists so I assume some of the baltic/scandinavian cruise ships might stop(over) here?)

  2. I've sure had worse Sundays than “get some freshly roasted beans from a small batch roastery in Kuressaare, find a quiet beach in the baltic seaside, sip yummy coffee with your dogs while a gentle breeze caresses your face” :blobcatcoffee:

  3. Yesterday at the coffee festival I found Happiness. 🌈

    It was 15% off.

  4. Fun fact: Simon Lõpp who won the Latte Art Showdown at the Tallinn Coffee Festival today is a good pal of @iris’ :iris_dog: ☕

  5. Mind properly blown:

    > “By the time you steamed your milk you have added up to 20 grams of water to the jug. This is one of the reasons you shouldn't reuse milk you already steamed once!”

    — Michalis Dimitrakopoulos, visiting judge from Greece at the Tallinn Coffee Festival Latte Art Championship

Totally never occurred to me, although it makes perfect sense 🤯

  6. At the Tallinn Coffee Festival — so far have only procured chocolate :awkward_look_monkey:

  7. First #OffgridCoffee of the season at the “cabin” :blobcatcoffee: 🔆🔋

*please pay no mind to the terrible latté «art», I'm re-learning how to use the milk steamer/microfoam maker 😅

  8. Guess who forgot the milk jug again :blobcatfacepalm:
(in the car, not at home this time at least, I might go for a second attempt in the afternoon… for science!)

But otherwise the Nanofoamer made some quite splendid on-the-go microfoam, I'm impressed!

  9. Last Friday I went shopping for the long weekend (Midsummer festivities) but the shop only had 2l boxes of my favorite milk so I took it. It was expiring today and I still had 350-400ml left and I didn't want it to spoil (was expiring today) so I used some old beans to practice. I'm usually rather self-conscious about waste, and pretty good at avoiding it. Well, pour still has plenty more to practice but damn were these (also) tasty (despite the old-ish beans!), it was an outright crime to pour most of it down the drain :blobcatmeltcry:

Please visit me in #Tallinn so I can serve you delicious coffee with wonky latte art :brows:

  10. Latte art is still wonky but learned a ton about dialing in espresso*, which is tricky, because I don't really drink naked espresso but boy it has made the lattes even more tasty (and they were pretty damn tasty even before!)

  11. POV: "Oh hello, casual existential dread, but at least your latte (art) is improving"

  12. I don't drink a lot of coffee so I've been doing just fine with my hand grinder… except every time I use it this happens. I don't exactly know why @lumi does this, but as someone trying to learn more about canine behavior it utterly fascinates me.
Usually when she does the "humping" it's attention-seeking behavior (e.g. she wants me to play with her, or she wants to get the food I'm preparing). But that doesn't fully explain this, triggered by the sound of the grinder.

Fun fact: the same thing happens when I blow my nose. :blobcatshrug2:

God I love this mysterious fluffy rascal... :collieBlueMerleHeartHug:

  13. I think my milk steaming is approaching the quality and consistency where I really should start focusing on pouring. Because this tastes lovely already.

    #flakiBrews

  14. Okay now here's something I find interesting about this kit. Is 160€ expensive for a handheld espresso maker? Absolutely. And about the same for a "microfoam maker"? Totally. 80€ for a manual hand grinder? Ridiculous! BUT! All these together with a small 300ml kettle (~40 bux from Amazon, probably half that straight from Ali) makes a bit over 400€. Now we could argue whether this set is enough to get close in quality to the 1200€ Lelit espresso machine in the back… but it isn't even up for debate whether it can deliver (and even exceed) the quality of my previous coffee maker, a 5 year old Sage/Breville Bambino Plus that is still sold for over 500€ in Estonian stores today!

    #flakiBrews

  15. Okay don't mind the terrible pour but I'd say that turned out pretty decent! My grind setting needs tuning because I barely got any crema but the taste is yum (this is a single shot latte from 12g of local light roast by Paper Mill)

    #flakiBrews

  16. Okay so what's the deal about #Singapore and fancy home/portable #coffee barista gear? :blobthinkingcool:

Correction: Wacaco is based in Hong Kong, Subminimal is Singapore

    #flakiBrews

  17. I mean...it is still *worth it* :blobraccoon_cofe:

    #flakiBrews

  18. Fun fact I just learned: turning my coffee machine on, letting it heat up (it's a medium-fancy heat-exchanger machine, so it has a boiler to heat up before it can brew) and brewing a single latte uses more electricity than cooking 4l of doggy broth for over an hour in my multi-cooker :pikawow:

    #flakibrews #homeassistant

  19. (Actually, the coffee turned out rather fine! I ran out of milk so the second shot is cappuccino with barista coconut (from Alpro), it steams really well, and I actually like the slightly sweet coconutty flavor, as opposed to other plant-based milks which I really don't appreciate with coffee (oat and nuts in particular))

(((steaming & pouring still needs practice)))

    #flakiBrews

  20. The only problem with practicing coffee-making is "Now who's going to drink all this delicious coffee??!"

    #flakibrews

  21. Still dialing in the porlexgrinders.com hand grinder that I got on recommendation of @jer and it's been working like a champ (also making *me* work like a champ 💪 ), but is fine for the once-or-twice-a-week of shots I'm brewing usually.

The heat-up time does not seem to be as much of an issue as expected, it took a bit more than ten minutes today. The steam wand is amazing and an order-of-magnitude improvement over the Sage Bambino Plus I've had before!

Also the little things like I can now whack the portafilter on my food waste container and have the used grounds fall right out, as opposed to having to scrape them out of the portafilter like previously is just :blob_sign_nice:

  22. While buying a fancy espresso machine certainly won't magically make you good at making coffee (or latte art), but this is genuinely one of the best coffees I've made at home so far, which, at attempt #3 and a total of maybe ~one hour spent on figuring this machine out, I consider a win. :blobfoxcofe:

    #flakibrews

  23. Okay, it took less than twenty, and then it produced a wonderful textured milk even with my mediocre steaming skills. We will see later how I fare with brewing actual coffee on this beast!

    #flakibrews

  24. My glorified milk steamer now takes up to 24 minutes to produce frothy milk for my matcha lattes, but I guess my occasional cafe lattes will now have a chance to potentially be tastier? :blobraccoon_cofe:

    #flakibrews

  25. (fwiw I never cared much for "latte art", but after 4 years I learned that "when you make a good steamed milk, latte ‘art’ becomes fairly easy, while with not well steamed milk you'll never even get to a point of trying…". So yeah my latte art is terrible but improving as I more consistently get the milk right! Aaand btw I've never really practiced, so making a couple of these a week — as opposed to at least a couple dozen working in a café — explains the slow progress...)

    #flakibrews

  26. After 3-4 years, I'm at the “bad barista” stage of my milk steaming skills and honestly I take this is as a huge win. “Occasionally I'm able to replicate at home to a 90-95% percentile to what my favorite coffee shops in Tallinn serve” in both cafe lattes & matcha lattes (mostly the latter though) is an achievement badge I'd wear on me clothing. :blobcattea:

  27. My latté art needs work but the view makes up for it :cuteFroggie:
