Hahahaha I still did not finish Lightning Returns. Took three attempts at the final boss, didn't beat it yet. Feels doable though and also the fight actually feels pretty good, unlike one of the optional bosses right before which just felt plain unfair and cost me way too many of my good healing items.
Also, the spectacle! Whoa! The ending clearly got more polishing than the beginning. Story coming together, fights going crazy, visuals delightful, fantastic music.

I figured out something new with the gunblade: I don't actually need the safety pins to be metal nails. A piece of ABS filament is enough. It's not as stiff, but it prevents the thing from falling apart or out of position, at least in sword form. Hmm. I will think about this. Maybe this opens up new options so I can have a more elegant lock after all. (Either way, this is good, because nails are usually forbidden at cons.)

Well that was quite the spectacle for the last day of Lightning Returns. One WTF 🤦♂️moment but overall pretty good actually. Very welcome after I spent some time with some of the worse side quests and then decided to just skip ahead (you can go to sleep, which never makes sense unless you really don't have anything to do anymore). It's late and I saved the last fights for another night, but then it's finally over and I finished the Lightning trilogy after over 3 years.

I checked and I have indeed completed all main quests in Lightning Returns. So now I have free time for side quests. Just finished the one involving one of the (musical) themes from XIII-2. Nice emotional moment. Now off to search the friends of a lady who insists she was a Chocobo once...

So uh... I accidentally managed to collect enough souls to get an extra TWO days in Lightning Returns. I have completed all the main quests though. um. So uh... should I just randomly walk around now, trying to solve some more of those rather dull side quests? I already did all the fun ones. Looks like instead of time pressure, I now have too much time on my hands in the game where time no longer exists but everything is on a timer...

I finally continued Lightning Returns and finished the main main quest. The game is not over though. Apparently it actually ends when the time is up - the premise of the game is that you have so and so many days before the world ends. Looks like after I solved the main mystery, I'm free to do whatever I want with my whopping remaining half day. Didn't expect to make it, but the boss fight was, while spectacular to watch, not that hard, and time doesn't pass in battle anyway

I picked the gunblade bag back up. I intend to have it done for LBM on Thursday and fortunately, I had already made pretty good progress. Bought bias binding, planned out the rest and drew marks today, I'm too tired for cutting and sewing now but should get that done tomorrow. Not sure if I'll manage to make the straps that attach the bag to the pants though. (This is the backside, the jeans seam won't be visible later.)

@wildrikku Also everything is better because Lightning can wear a bajillion different outfits that are also used in cutscenes. I still can't get over how cool she looks when emerging from the skytrain to the wildlands in this dress that makes her look like a stylish British lady or something, then proceeds to slay monsters lol. While in part it's hilarious, the details are kinda cool, like Lightning saying different battle lines depending on the outfit she ends the fight in

Before actually starting FFX, I continued Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. I probably mentioned how weird this game is a dozen times... it really is. 😂 I found a couple cool quests in the wildlands though and the hilarious dialogues are now hilarious in a way that seems intentional and not accidental. Also, the quest/random fighting ratio got better. It definitely helped that I looked up a thing or two. Guess I'll soon find out if I can save the world...

DONE! Damn, this was a LONG FUN project. What started as "yeah, I could build this thing" turned into a whole new crazy hobby, teaching myself a couple of new skills, entering what feels like a whole new universe. As is expected with a project I already spent 2.5 years on, there are more things I would have liked to do but couldn't, but I am super proud of: Lightning's gunblade from Final Fantasy XIII, transformable without parts that are not original.

omg this cost me a lot more nerves than I would like, mostly because the official software for the laser unit on Creality 3D printers is so bad. It was also obviously a bit of work to partly disassemble the blade and position it inside the 3D printer frame so that the laser could work and nothing would move or crash into the frame. Now as soon as my neighbors will tolerate it I will vacuum the ash out and paint and re-assemble it to new glory!

I think I identified my problem with Lightning Returns, which I still haven't finished. It's just the sum of its parts. The parts are mostly fun, there are aspects I really like and the rest is at least okay. But they don't mix and make for a great game that I want to come back to and nothing is good enough on its own to make me. FF XIII had great storytelling and characters that were enough on their own and XIII-2 worked as a whole. Ah well. I'll still finish it.

I discovered another one of Lightning's magic abilities: Her bag for the gunblade disappears when unused. That's really the culmination of the coolness of her gunblade pulling move: Grab it from the bag, it transforms in her hand, cut down some enemies with no bag disturbing your moves, give it a spin, it transforms back to gun, the bag appears, shove it in, boom, a target's a target, off to hold someone a lecture for being an idiot.

I finally have a picture of a gunblade made by a Cosplayer who apparently managed to figure out the last engraving I am missing, the one that is only visible in gun form. 🥳 Now to translate it from Pulsian to English and find out if it's gibberish or something that makes sense and compare it to the one artwork that exists where it is visible (very small). The first word ends on ing so it might actually say something in English.

Lightning Returns has some immersive aspects I did not expect in a game like this. For example, you can actually walk around by landmarks instead of using a map. Sometimes it goes almost too far. I was out of quests and vaguely remembered that there are more areas. I had no idea how to get there, but then there was an announcement at the train station that trains to X and Y go from the other station, so I went there and took a train and only upon arrival, I got a new quest.

aaaah Lightning Returns finally took a turn from weird and silly to some actual story and emotions. Beat the boss I had a hard time with, was rewarded with some insight. Also, this combat system IS fun. It's just harder to master than I expected. Think I got the hang of it now though.

After another half hour of staring at the unreadable blob that is the engraving on the part of Lightning's gunblade only visible in gun form, I came to the conclusion that it is probably Pulsian, but might as well be Kanji as an artist's troll move. Except that if it was a real language people use, someone would've noticed years ago. People have obsessed over this weapon for years and nobody seems to know. ugh. I'll just hide an easter egg there myself.

Back to Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII! According to my chart, it's been almost a year. No wonder I forgot how weird this game is in a rather funny way. Nice to hear Lightning's voice again - I had also forgotten how much voiced dialogue this game has and how cool it looks. At least I quickly got back into the combat system. I even remembered which enemies I didn't yet figure out... got beat up pretty badly still. 😂 Guess I'll go and try to save the world then.

So... why did I chose a village in the Eifel as my base again? I hate mountains. Considering becoming a l'Cie for the gravity defying powers.
Anyways. Always funny how, even though I barely embrace the play aspect in Cosplay, my posture changes as soon as I got the boots and top on. My way of walking also changes when I'm in full outfit. Pretty cool.

Tonight's FF13 update - got to chapter 6, the Sunleth Waterscape is very pretty. I actually vaguely recognise this - I think I saw a bit of this chapter many years ago on a twitch stream I follow. Now I've got the handle on Vanille/Sazh combat with using the Saboteur role to make staggering easier, I'm pretty optimistic about how this chapter is going to go.

Getting very close to the end of #FFXIII, and only now really getting into upgrading weapons. That is where the damage deficiency is. Really 11th hour for me to be learning this.
I also learned about the Lionheart gunblade, which you can only get in the last chapter. And I want it so bad. The Squall fan in me is screaming.

Anyone recognize these? I figured that my premium compass has a bracket for tools instead of the usual pencil lead so I could use that to hold my crafting knife and cut a nice circle (needed a really sharp blade, I couldn't even see it afterwards). The rest was cut through paper with the template printed on and then the magic of heating the foam. #Gunblade #Cosplay #FFXIII

Good progress on the #gunblade this weekend so far. I really should have taken notes from the start. Took me forever to figure out something I had already figured out but not actually made and not documented in writing because at the time, I tried to make a professional CAD model which I later gave up. But now things are working quite well and I also solved an issue with parts keeping their position. Need to work on my thesis now though. #cosplay #FFXIII
