C 1600 BCE, after Minoan merchants bring the Fragment to the island of Crete from ancient Egypt, a devastating eruption destroys the island of Thera, sending shockwaves, ash, and tsunami out into the rest of the world. It is the largest explosion in human history, and once again the Fragment disappears from recorded history until the Mycenaen Greeks excavate Knossos a century later.
