My #FediForumFriday is a thought on keynote speakers for future @fediforum events.
I think sociologists/psychologists would be an interesting keynote or fireside chat, to come at building Fedi from a human pov and how we bring people in.

It's #FediForumFriday- your reminder to check in with projects you're excited about, ask for or offer help, or just chat with the folks you met and refresh the joy and motivation you felt at #FediForum.

I was blown away by the intensity and quality of the follow-up discussion on "Growing the Open Social Web" at a #FediForum session yesterday. And the sheer number of people who showed up! Somehow this must be an important topic to a lot of people!! 😜
We will continue this discussion probably more regularly than twice a year at the regular FediForum.

I have a #FediForumFriday follow up question about the demo that EU-Haul demo (I can't remember who did it, sorry!) and Bsky:
Can I use my bridged Bsky account (as in the one @anewsocial creates when you bridge from Mastodon) and move that to an EU based Bsky server, and the bridge still work?
If no, is that in the works? -
It appears the "social media ban for children" that Australia started and other countries are considering are actually not that, but bans on a fairly small set of specific platforms. Not social media as a whole. Is that correct?
Seems to me we could get lots of of those kids into the #Fediverse instead?

Greetings to #FOSDEM in Brussels! It sounds like there will be a full track on the topic of the #socialweb tomorrow with lots of interesting presentations! Good luck to all the presenters, and have a great time discussing the #fediverse. #fediforumfriday

(for those that remember the "Choose Life" monologue from _Trainspotting_)
---
Choose Mastodon. Choose the Fediverse.
Choose curiosity over virality. Boost because you care. Follow because you’re interested. Be niche. Be human.
Choose Freedom.

This Sunday is Digital Independence Day.
Their site is still only in German (despite the English title!) but their cause is clearly one that applies world-wide.

Also just recording the demo video for FediMod FIRES, and now I've just gotta edit it because video production, y'know.
Might be available in the next few days, we'll see.
-
Okay, cool, an update today: I met up with a friend and we discussed how to build a conformance test suite for the FIRES protocol, and that's now going to be built as a collaboration between us.
First external contributor, yay!
-
A little #FediForumFriday update: I've released a few versions of FIRES over the past week, each shipping a new feature:
- Support for importing into datasets from existing files
- Support for exporting datasets to mastodon compatible files (including a retraction list)
- Installer script for easy deployment (still testing & not ready for production)
- Various UI fixesI've also a demo server live that I've shared with a few folks on the implementation side.
I'm exploring a few things:
- Typescript SDK for consumers
- Non-public Datasets
- Delta support for snapshots (if you don't care about all the individual changes)
- Additional administrative UI (account management, access token management)
- *Maybe* HTTP Message Signature based authentication for non-public datasets (stretch)I'm also toying with a few major design changes, but that's a bit TBD, since I'd want to drop picocss at the same time, and improve the admin panel in general.
I'm trying to figure out exactly what I want in the 1.0.0 release, and also have some production readiness stuff to do.

AT Proto gets a lot of things right in their OAuth profile, which is also similar to the OAuth profile from Solid OIDC (which added on User Managed Access & required OIDC instead of just OAuth)
Essentially you want to be able to safely send a token that identifies you to potentially untrusted servers & not have that access token compromised. That's what DPoP gives you essentially.
-
#fediforumfriday: this week I've mostly been working on a side project experimenting with OAuth for decentralized & distributed web; To bootstrap this, rather than writing it all from scratch, I worked on reusing the atproto/oauth-provider package, which provides a LOT of functionality (including user registration & authorisation flows)
The OAuth profile is basically OAuth 2.1 + Client ID Metadata Documents + Pushed Authorization Requests + DPoP binding (prevents token theft) + Protected Resource Metadata (discover the authorization server from the resource)
The cool thing? All the SDKs for AT Proto for implementing OAuth servers & clients should mostly be reusable, easing adoption.

I was also involved in conversations that lead to FEP-8967, which recommends software use Link objects in the attachment's to Objects (i.e, Notes) that the software or publisher wishes to prioritise the display of (rather than parsing out the first link in the content). This would also work for previews for links being federated in the future.

Besides that, just a lot of other conversations going on.

It's #FediForumFriday so I'll point out I and others will be presenting at a dedicated Fediverse track with twelve (!) presentations in one day at #SFSCon in November.
Hopefully our attendance will spur SFSCon into creating an account somewhere Fediversal...
You can review the Fediverse track at https://www.sfscon.it/programs/2025/ (choose Fediverse in the drop down)
-
We have selected the presentations for the Fediverse track we are organizing at #SFSCon and will send out confirmations shortly. Thanks everybody who proposed a talk! It's going to be a good mix of technical and broader, societal content. Looking forward to Bolzano in November! #FediForumFriday

It is MVP right now.
So A LOT more work needs to be done, but — it works. -
An early morning (for me!) #FediforumFriday post - some folks are going to be meeting up in person at #SFSCon in November. #FediforumEurope https://fediforum.org/news/2025-07-09-fediforum-partners-with-sfscon-november-2025-bolzano/

Back in the year 2022 — myself, @atomicpoet , and @massoud were talking about how to FUND THE FEDIVERSE.
• to help sysops pay server bills,
• to support developers creating Fedi software, and
• to fund creators on the Fediverse,
...
This same topic came up in this year's FediForum 2025!
...
Given the importance of funding the Fediverse and the recent discussion — soon it will be released as open-source software.

Discussions are ongoing about a possible #FediForumEurope . The idea would be to bring the European open social web community together, across countries, across protocols, from the private sector to the public sector and everything in between etc. Details still being figured out. If that is of interest to you, reach out!
