So a question re: #fediblocks.

Will accounts from blocked instances still show in my list and just not be accessible, or do they disappear altogether?

Would like to evaluate what I’ve lost to determine the level of need/desire for a shadow account elsewhere.

Nice thread.

However we see more and more clearly that a federated architecture requires sound and transparent rules of governance. Otherwise, hasty, rash and fervent #fediblocks risk degrading the #fediverse into a myriad of isles and archipelagos.

We need governance rules on how and when #fediblocks can be applied, with the right to appeal. This should be fair, transparent, evidence-based, with an option to #refederate after some time, when the alleged wrongdoing has been addressed and resolved.

Just saw those posts about the potential Russian troll farm and #FediBlocks
While I agree that the accounts in question are that kind of thing, I am a bit weirded out by the simplification.
The argument seems to be that a Ukrainian wouldn't fly a swastika.
Look, Ukrainians aren't suddenly a monolithic block of people who are all good freedom fighters. (also Russians aren't a monolithic block of Orcs)

And who thinks there is or was no fascism in Ukraine should really consult a history book.

Keeping Mastodon non-toxic & benevolent requires total community buy-in when it comes to moderation.

Yes, we have mods + admins. But we must also habitually practice individual moderation using the robust safety tools at our disposal.

This means blocking clear-cut trashbags AND reporting them to admins

This means also reporting trashbags to the trashbag's own home instance admins.

It means calling out bad actors early and often & sharing information via #FediBlocks & boosts.

Ok, some help would be appreciated. Trying to find places where instances have published their block lists. Working on parsers/ingestors for my importer (out shortly) and want to try and find as many ways I can pre-package to allow folks to import lists. Right now I've got a couple of web scrapers, working on tracking #fediblocks, where else should i be pulling from?

@guinan We are now running at around 221 sites blocked. Next up tracking on #fediblocks from specific users, and parsing publicly viewable instance lists. Not bad all told so far.
