There are a LOT of characters I might have chosen for S. There's Susan Sto Helit, granddaughter of Death (Discworld), Spock (Star Trek), Superman, Supergirl, Sam Vimes (Discworld again), Schierke (Berserk), Sameen Shaw (Person of Interest), Skade (Alastair Reynolds' Inhibitor Sequence), Sherlock Holmes and probably a lot more.
And I probably do technically like a couple of them more than the character I'm going to name, but she was my first and she is the one I want to talk about.

I have always been fond of a mystery and a detective and a clever solution to a puzzle and Susan Calvin might be the first Solves Puzzles character I got to know; it was either her or Sherlock Holmes.

There's something compelling to me about a story from the perspective of a fundamentally flawed person that is effectively either given the option to change or continue to villify the people around them? He's a stereotype in a genre ridden with them, but he examines the kind of person that wants to end up isekai'd into another world and the way that archetype gets prodded repeatedly and results in him growing as a person is just a really compelling story, and I find his growth to be really comprehensive and naturalistic in a way I don't usually see

My #FavCharacterS is what came after. Spawn is a soldier of Hell in a fight he didn't enlist in against Heaven. His widow is married to his best friend and they share a daughter. Spawn fights, because that's what he does. Even if what he fights for isn't good.

@ami_angelwings #FavCharacterS: Sorawo Kamikoshi from Otherside Picnic. She may seem like your standard "Socially Awkward Protagonist" at first, but she's more than that: she actually kind of sucks.
She's antisocial and awkward to the point that her inner monologue is inevitably "ugh, this sounds like a pain" when she can't escape being considerate to her friends and the people around her.
She can be pretty callous, especially towards strangers and in especially traumatic situations, but mostly for good reasons.
She's not terrible, she's just moderately awful. I love her.
She's been trying her best, but she still struggles to express herself and her needs, and her awkwardness still results in friction with the other characters.
I like that... I don't know how to say it... the series doesn't just make her social issues a cute affectation, and also doesn't just trot them out for eye-rolling romantic misunderstandings and drama. It's just an element of her life that produces bigger or smaller difficulties.

My #FavCharacterS should be Sakura Kasugano from Street Fighter b/c I love her & she taught herself how to throw a fireball just by watching Ryu (& should have been a MC in games going forward like SF3 imo)
But I am going to give it to Sheva Alomar, the only black woman protagonist in Resident Evil, only black playable main (Josh is a side story), basically forgotten & will never come back b/c her use was to offset charges of racism in RE5 b/c *waves hand* it's GD RE5. She was originally planned as a non-playable rebel leader, & I don't think she was even supposed to be African (hence the last name). She has an AWFUL racist bonus costume. But she's also very cool, brave, helped rescued Jill & shut Wesker up forever. & I love playing her. So +1000 points in my book.

At first "Rascal" looks like a harem hijinks story but Sakuta is absolutely devoted to Mai from start to finish, and the two of them become capable partners in dealing with the various "Adolescence Syndrome" weirdness.
He's full of heart, sass, and determination, earning his place with the girl.

@ami_angelwings I've been waiting for #FavCharacterS so I can highlight Sakuta Azusagawa, the titular "Rascal" in the "Rascal Does Not Dream Of" light novel turned anime series.

Also I like that she does that cool heel click before her leitmotif plays (this show has a lot of leitmotifs) and all the student council addresses her as "Satsuki sama".

Sen, the name of Chihiro after she yields her name to Yubaba in Spirited Away. It's probably my most beloved movie. Her character arc is perfect, and as a kid who changed schools and had to (mal-)adjust, I understand her starting point and it resonates.

@ami_angelwings I'm choosing Shadow Mistress Yuuko! (The Demon Girl Next Door)
Sickly as a child and cursed to a life of poverty by the same magical girl involved in her father's mysterious disappearance, Shamiko must harvest the blood of a magical girl in order to break the 50,000-yen-a-month curse on her family and free her lazy-ass ancestor that's sealed in the family doorstopper. Also she's made friends with the local magical girl, who is training her to be stronger.
Anyway.
She tries her best. (And I have another goober I have in mind for number Y.) (I really hope the author gets well enough to continue the series, volume 6 ended on a wicked nasty cliffhanger.)
