  1. Unseasonably warm weather here on the front range of CO.
Watching a “60 minutes overtime” about the Shah & Ayotola from shortly before the #IranHostageCrisis
Hubs knows all about it & is generous in answering my questions…. Quite informative.
These are the news segments I crave. I grew up with this kind of informative news segments.
We need something better than the #FairnessDoctrine
This show is on CBS news national or CBS news Miami.
I will do other stuff, too.

  2. There's a lot to be done, eg,
    #Resist via #GeneralStrike

    until meaningful policies like
    #AbolishICE
    #SCOTUSpurge
    #EpsteinTrials
    #M4A
    can happen (initially through state-by-state #SoftSuccession )

...but this (link below) is correct. Without enforcing #RedLionDecision by re-instituting the #FairnessDoctrine you cannot ever truly achieve #MediaLiteracy and reform in #USPolitics

And if you're #Ukraine #EU or #Canada , you should angle for this in the states, too.

  7. @Dhmspector I think overall, it could be a big win, if pundants don't go overboard commercializing the opportunity, and people actively listen. PBS is very good at ridding the wolves of their sheep's clothing. Like this exchange here...

  8. What do you expect from a 24-hour news cycle and hacks playing "journalist"? When and IF the #Democrat 's ever take power again they should restore the #FairnessDoctrine #RonaldReagan abolished or create an equivalent that applies to the 21st century!

  9. When all we had were the "big three," I don't remember it ever being this bad. Well except for the #SmothersBrothers Maybe that #fairnessdoctrine policy established in 1949 by the FCC did us some good. You know, up until - reaganlibrary.gov/archives/top.

  10. Addendum! #Reagan abolishing the #FairnessDoctrine a policy that required the holders of broadcast licenses both to present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that fairly reflected differing viewpoints is a VERY close second.

  11. I can't understand why felon Donald Trump gets a pass on laws he's broken since becoming a felon.
Example, he continually uses musical artists work without permission.
#AI is no help / makes me feel like the guy is a king.

  12. An anecdote with regard to the #FairnessDoctrine.
    A little #thread.

As a preliminary matter, it’s difficult to get good info about the fairness doctrine because corporate media, of all stripes, loved its repeal. It makes money for both the #fox and #nbc #propaganda wings.

What’s the Fairness Doctrine, you ask? In a nutshell, it was an FCC policy that required the holders of broadcast licenses to present controversial issues of public importance, while doing so in a manner that fairly reflected differing viewpoints.

It was repealed in 1987 under the #Reagan administration, enthusiastically lap dogging to monied #elite media owners.

That’s background. You can read more at the link below.

Now for the impact, as told through an anecdotal experience I had today.

  13. The one thing I wanted the Dominion lawsuit to produce was ending the ability of Fox News to continue lying and continue to foment insurrection. At the very least, this settlement should result in is a prime time public apology that they lied, how they lied, and why. I don’t see that. It better include an admission of wrongdoing or it’s absolutely pointless.

The #FairnessDoctrine needs to be restored and all the media conglomerates need to be broken up.

  14. #Resisters #Leftists #Antifa #ClimateWarriors #Democrats Everyone of us must activate on demanding factual news.
I made some phone calls and will do more next week.
I’ll also look for any already groups- I know they’re out there.

  15. @protecttruth In the abstract I agree, and I support some kind of #CommonCarrier status for pervasive #SocialMedia . Some things to think about: #FCC Title II regulation; #Pruneyard Shopping Center v. Robins; #Section230 ; #NetNeutrality ; and the former #FairnessDoctrine

  16. @Teri_Kanefield If the #FairnessDoctrine had not been repealed by the #FCC in '87, would it have done any good in keeping #FauxNews in check?

  17. Fairness Reconsidered: Receiving Audience as a Commons

The conceit of the Fairness Doctrine was that broadcast spectrum was a commons, and a limited public resource, arbitrarily allocated to a given (usually private) party. The right came with the obligation to manage this common resource in the public interest....

[What if we hold that] that public mindshare is itself a commons, and should be held and managed in the public interest. There’s a point at which reach or penetration themselves become exploitation of a public resource, and concern over the impacts of such reach are legitimate public concerns.

In information theory, a Sender transmits through a Channel to a Reciver. Fairness Doctrine was concerned with the receiver, but justified on the basis of the channel. I'm arguing that receiver itself is a valid justification.

An idea I'm kicking around. As with other recent posts, much of the meat is in comments, though the main article does cover much of the basics in this case.
