Stirling’s Starter 2024
Brisbane WICEN's first Emergency Communications Exercise of the year took place this last week-end at Stirling's Crossing, assisting them with the running of the Stirling's Starter. This is an annual horse endurance ride event organised by Stirling's Crossing Endurance Club and is the first such event on their annual calendar. For this event, we were assisted by members of the Gold Coast Amateur Radio Society. Being the first event of the year, we've got the added challenge that we've […]https://brisbanewicen.org.au/2024/03/10/stirlings-starter-2024/

...as for moments when my parents *have* felt happy & proud of me? probably the day i got my acceptance letter to duke, and then even more, the day i got the letter saying that i got the full scholarship to duke. that was really the day. i think that was the high-water mark in my parents' happiness with me lol. i don't blame them! the question of college & how it was going to get paid for was the biggest question up until that point... so to see that i "got the job done" (the job being "getting into the best school i could, and on top of that, got a full scholarship"), that was a big deal. especially since i'd worked so hard for it (made myself sick, always tired, depressed, etc.) ...and i've been disappointing them (but getting happier and happier!) ever since 😆

Farkn Thursdees… Son and I got PCRs. Apparently we can still go out into the community “but try to #WearAMask.” Try? Try harder, y’all. I know pathology dude with the face shield and n95 and the rest of it was being low key because we are among the few still acknowledging reality and already likely to still wear masks when we absolutely have to venture into dank public spaces but… whatever, it’s #Thursday, it was all going to end in tears one way or another. #pandemic #FailureManagement
