Extraordinary Attorney Woo (Korean: 이상한 변호사 우영우) is a 2022 South Korean television series starring Park Eun-bin in the title role, along with Kang Tae-oh and Kang Ki-young. It follows Woo Young-woo, an autistic female rookie attorney hired by a major law firm in Seoul. Because she is different from her neurotypical peers, her manner of communication is seen by them as odd, awkward, and blunt. With each legal case and through her intelligence and photographic memory, she becomes an increasingly competent attorney and earns recognition from other legal professionals and appreciation from her clients.

I enjoyed this show very much and would totally recommend watching it!

sometimes I wish it was possible to be like Hoshi Sato, just picking up entire languages in a couple days

I always watch stuff with subtitles bc I have some minor auditory processing issues¹

lately I've been watching a lot of dubbed² stuff³ and it's been really fascinating seeing the differences between the dubs and the subtitles meant as a translation for the original language

I mean, it's similar to the way subtitles meant for #Deaf and #HardOfHearing viewers are sometimes slightly off from what was said (which is an #accessibility issue)

I have, in fact, watched #ExtraordinaryAttorneyWoo and I enjoyed it overall. However, it's far from my favourite #kdrama and there are way too many good ones out there! I hadn't watched any western TV or streaming services for 14 years when #kdrama entered my life. To say that it's an obsession would be putting it mildly!

I'm hoping for a season 2. Extra. Woo was my first kDrama & Kang Tae Oh was the first quest I went on. I am hoping that My Drama List is right since they have all the cast there.

I read that the screenwriter is trying to finish up another project & hasn't yet written this script yet, so if it happens, it's probably a 2025 thing.

I like Woo. I find her interesting.

I like the treatment of autism in the show.

However. I dislike some of the soundtrack. It sounds childish to me. Not a fan.

I also hate the court scenes. Yes, yes, this is Korean law, which is significantly different from American law. Still, some of the legal maneuvering looks strikingly similar to Hollywood law. Not a fan of this either.

I searched for articles about the legal realism of this show, but came up empty-handed.

End of the Year Drama Challenge
Day 1: Since when have you been watching dramas?

In autumn of 2022 (Yes, just over a year ago) a friend recommended "Extraordinary Attorney Woo." I loved it and started to watch more on Netflix.

I felt I might be spending too much time on dramas, but fortunately I discovered that many on NF had been dubbed into Portuguese & I am working on learning it. So now it was homework & completely justifiable.

In Dec, I gifted myself a subscription to Viki and found that many weren't dubbed in Portuguese, so then I had to learn Korean. I enrolled in my 1st Korean class in Jan. I have watched a couple of #cDrama shows & 1 #jDrama show, but I pretty much limit myself to #kDrama so that I can learn the language.

Though, I would agree, post- #ExtraordinaryAttorneyWoo since that show gained worldwide recognition and praise from many autistics (like myself). It probably gave more people some awareness and some idea.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching Extraordinary Attorney Woo on #Netflix. Park Eun-bin did an amazing job portraying the main protagonist and the idiosyncrasies of high-functioning ASD. The story was brilliantly written, if a little confusing when discussing points of law. I’m hopeful it won’t be too long until season 2 comes out. ⚖️

I also blazed straight through #onepiece great beginning and middle but they couldn't completely stick the landing. Not a terrible ending, but it could have been tighter. Both the writing and acting got very loosey goosey.

I started to be Openly Autistic last year, thanks to the #Kdrama #ExtraordinaryAttorneyWoo. I mean, it's about time to stop masking and be who I am.

But, I guess, emotions was not something I considered. I don't know, it seems that my decision to unmask, also "unmasked" my control on my emotions, and due to the problems that suddenly started to come, I only realised now that I no longer have control over it.

And I have no idea how to manage it this way. It's all new.

I started wondering, was masking ever helpful? I mean, right now, because I kept my emotions wrapped-up, now that I lost control over it, I have no idea how to handle the intense emotions.

I'm glad, no anger related emotions (yet), because I'll probably hear "you have anger issues" when that's not the case.
