I went back to read my diary, to see what I said about Evil Dead Rise (2023).
- Movie not taking place in a cabin in a woods kinda spoilt the mood.
- Kids dropped the boxes of pizza, pizza didn't spilt out, perfectly edible, they abandoned them. Waste of food. Dumb kids.
- Pretty boring show.
- Doesn't feel like an Evil Dead movie until the last stretch of the movie. -
Evil Dead II (1987) is one of my favourite horror comedy, and the reason I don't enjoy Evil Dead Rise (2023) and Evil Dead Burn (2026) as much is because they are just "horror".
After watching 2026, I think it's better than 2023, though it drags a lot.
Wiki says that there's a Evil Dead (2013), and I can't remember what's that about.

Haven't been able to do as many movies lately but I've done a few, enough for a #LastFourWatched for #LetterboxdFriday this week. Worldbreaker I saw a week or two ago, it got criticism but it wasn't bad. Little Brother was hilarious, and I'm now over half done with Evil Dead Burn, I've had to watch it in pieces. Tons of gore, so nasty and gross. Great camera work, too. Digging it.

New Evil Dead movies are just non fun pointless drama generic horror movies. Same with this shit, even more drab than the previous one. Why do this? Is it so hard to make a good non-Ash movie? Why reinvent hot water when you don't need to and also aren't capable to do so? Stupid shit, and the very post credit scene made me actually mad, fuck.

Evil Dead Burn: Is That It?
Summary: the deadities go after a family after they discover an ancient weapon that can kill them.
So this film was watchable and had some good gore but that’s really it, it didn’t do much of anything new either in terms of horror more broadly or in terms of the franchise.
Another thing that was odd was that the humour which is a staple of the Evil Dead franchise was mostly missing as the film played it straight, this was a bad choice.
The film once again showed the evil side of the nuclear family and turned the film into a depressing PSA on domestic abuse.
Crucially it was an Evil Dead film that wasn’t fun.
Overall, watchable if the low point for the franchise.
