  2. Oregon Department of Transportation Climate Office has published a map of eligible level 2 and DC fast charging stations that may get funds for repair

"This week Oregon moves a step closer to a more reliable public EV charging network thanks to a grant opportunity to repair and upgrade broken EV charging ports at public stations throughout the state.

The ODOT Climate Office has $10 million available from the federal Electric Vehicle Reliability and Accessibility Accelerator Program. We’re running a grant program to distribute the funding and are accepting applications for projects Oct. 8 - Nov. 12, 2024.

Grant recipients must use the funds to repair broken Level 2 and DC fast charging ports, or install new ones, at pre-selected public charging stations throughout the state. Federal rules require repaired or upgraded stations to have at least four functional charging ports."

  3. Love to see new solutions to tackle EV charging for multi-family dwellings. It may not be suitable for traditional suburban apartment or condo complexes (newer ones could be better suited) that don't have a more centralized parking garage or lot.

  4. The combination of having a lot more accessible Level 1 and 2 EV charging, especially at multi-family/apartment complexes, stores, shopping centers, on-street and parking garages instead of really expensive DC fast charging not only can do away with range anxiety, but it can also reduce the need for ridiculously large battery packs and vehicles.

  7. "Sticking a bank of chargers at a travel center that's rarely visited isn't the best use of resources, but neither is deploying them in an area that's already replete with other fast chargers."

I understand the latter, though having some redundancies and competition when it comes to charging providers would be nice.

The former could be a concern as those driving EVs may need to stop more often, especially those still needing to make a longer trip while still staying within the recommended 10-20 to 80% state of charge. Thus, they may need chargers in between busier locations.

  8. I remember one time I was at the IKEA near Portland Internation Airport and they had removed a couple of the public chargers around 2-3 years ago. I didn't notice if they put them back when I swung by a few months ago.

  10. I wish people wouldn't assume that most people who own EVs or would like to own EVs have a means of charging their vehicles overnight at home.

That is definitely not the case!
