European Commission fails to present a team on time
The European Union @eu is primarily governed by a "European Commission". The latter is a college of 27 people who jointly exercise the executive powers at the Union [confederal] level. It operates as a cabinet government, with one member ("Commissioner") per country – including Slovenia:
"Ljubljana is the only EU government yet to formally nominate a commissioner after swapping its male candidate Tomaž Vesel for a woman, Marta Kos. Kos’ nomination isn’t complete until a parliamentary committee signs off on it. That committee is chaired by a Janša ally, whose party is refusing to schedule the meeting, as things stand. […] The opposition […] wants to force the government to say the quiet part out loud: that Vesel didn’t want to resign but was forced to by Golob, who himself was pressured by von der Leyen."

The Dutch "voting from abroad" results (citizens living abroad and voting by mail) for the #europeanelections are now available.
Unsurprisingly Dutch people abroad vote less racist overall. Still good to see it confirmed.
It's uplifting that even candidate number four (@kimvsparrentak) on the GL/PvdA list received more direct votes than Geert Wilders (1289 vs 1120). These are the little bits of positivity we need. Thanks people! 🙂

If you think that Europe will face climate chaos with fully working and strong democratic structures, think again, it seems possible that this won’t be the case. Of course it would be naive to think that the EU ever had such structures, but it’s true that whatever structures it has can be weakened, especially from the inside. The same applies for a cohesive society.

Here in Spain, as far as I understand, the greens have joined forces with some other socialist-minded groups in the form of "Sumar". The right call this a watermelon party, green on the outside and red on the inside. I don't mind that! 🍉
#Sumar did OK in the #europeanelections, but the brown-shirts, #Vox, got twice the Sumar vote. Those fascist voters would have voted right-wing PP without Vox.

For the European Parliament elections this weekend, one might imagine the important topics would be the climate emergency and the threat of spreading Russian aggression.

CW: European elections 2024
This is a weird day for me. I am in the Netherlands on the day of the European Elections, but I already voted weeks ago, when I delivered my ballot to the Dutch Embassy in Singapore.
The Hague had already sent me my voter pass before I even knew that I'd be moving in May, so I figured that I might as well use it. I'm super impressed with how easy it has been to vote from abroad, and how smooth and user-friendly the system is!
Anyway.
If you haven't voted yet, go vote!
P.S. Today marks 80 years after D-Day. Just sayin'...
