For those of you who live within an hour or so of Arlington, VA, it's worth it to come at least to the evening concerts. Everything is free, but you have to go thru base security. The only place civilians can buy food and eat on base is the bowling alley.
If you ever played any band instrument at all, these concerts are worth going to; the service bands, and particularly the Army Band (Pershing's Own) and Marine Band (President's Own) are the best bands in this hemisphere. #tuba #euphonium -

Sad to say, today I had to give up on playing the first movement of the solo I was working on. I recognize my limits for what they are and knew I wouldn't have been able to make it performance ready in time for the recital I was going to perform at. So, since I only have to play one song, I'm choosing the second movement as it's more relaxed. But that's not what I'm here for. I'm looking for some genuine ideas on how to increase my ability to play at a higher register on my instrument. I'm a Euphonium player but any brass instrument players feel free to give me some tips on what I can do to help me get up there. Trumpet players make it sound so easy but I want to know how to do it physically, and what mental things do you do to stop yourself tightening up your muscles whenever you have to play at a higher register because I get nervous every time and it causes more problems than it solves. #brass #euphonium #music

Description: The image shows a brass musical instrument, specifically a euphonium. It has a silver or nickel-plated finish which gives it a shiny [email protected]. The body of the euphonium consists of tubes that are wound and looped into a compact form, with a flaring bell at one end that points upward. Towards the top of the instrument, you can see a series of valves, typically three or four, each connected to a valve button that the player presses to change the pitch of the notes.
The valves are arranged vertically in a row, and there are small pieces of tubing connected to each valve known as valve slides. Additionally, there is a larger, curved slide parallel to the valves, known as the tuning slide, which allows the player to adjust the instrument's tuning.
The euphonium is similar in shape to a tuba but is smaller in size and has a pitch range in the tenor-voice register, usually an octave above the tuba. For any band nerds out there who may agree, what do you think is best? I've heard many interpretations of Horovitz's Euphonium Concerto. I want to perform it for myself soon. Anyway, one performance sounded slow and methodical. The other performance was fast and frantic to my ear. Now, I know I'm being a bit biased. But if you were to play a concerto like this one, what style would you use? Personally, it's more important for me to play it right than to do it as quickly as humanly possible. This is despite the fact it's a concerto and concertos are there to highlight a particular instrument in the band. What are your thoughts? #band #Euphonium #brass
