  1. Thomas Tuchel called out England's fans at Wembley after his team scored three goals in the opening 20 minutes against Wales 👀

    #ENGWAL

  2. Who let the underdogs out? England 3 Wales 0. Whistle report from Wembley. Underdogs? England won’t be amongst the underdogs when they go to the World Cup, whatever Thomas Tuchel says. England won’t be amongst the top dogs, Spain, France, Argentina. But they will travel hopefully. They have a solid pedigree. They have bite. Quarter-finals should be their minimum target.

Thomas Tuchel has settled on a system that suits them, 4-2-3-1. He has a new star in Elliot Anderson who doesn’t see himself as a star, simply a hungry competitor wanting to do his best for the team, and having the ability to do just that. Tuchel’s team has a strong spine with plenty of pace and purpose out wide. Saka such a threat. Tuchel has strength in depth; there were at least 15 players either overlooked or injured. England were rampant for 20 minutes, as good as Wales were supine, then intensity inevitably dipped second half. Far harder tasks lie ahead. Seven things from #ENGWAL …

1 Vindication for Tuchel’s headline omissions? He could have called up Bellingham but didn’t. Bellingham wanted to report. Tuchel backed Rogers again at 10 and Rogers repaid his faith. Again. Tuchel loves Rogers; this was his fourth start out of Tuchel’s seven games so far. Delivered a goal – calm finish - and an assist. Important performance after 23 games without a goal for club and country. Rogers on the plane for the World Cup. But against the elite opponents in the knockouts, England will need Bellingham’s creativity in tight spaces and goals in tense situations.

2 Good night for Tuchel’s full-backs. Wales wingers were very deep, helping defence, so plenty of licence for Spence and Konsa to step up. Konsa contributed assist for Saka and showed his versatility (4 caps at right-back, 11 at centre-back). Spence full of positivity, and versatility - left-back after playing right-back against Serbia. James and Livramento probably Tuchel’s starting full-backs at the World Cup but he has significant alternatives.

3 Anderson again. And again. And again. Third international, third terrific display. Plays with a maturity that belies his 22 years. Breaks up attacks, and starts them. Sits in midfield and allows Rice to attack. Far, far too early for comparisons, and different positions, but something of the Steven Gerrard about his uncomplicated determination to win and love of playing. Just needs to add a goal threat.

4 Declan Rice undroppable. Real leader, second time as captain in his 69 caps, corners so important, brings energy, passing and a ferocious press. Midfield partnership coming on superbly with Anderson. Such an important player for Arsenal, too, embodying their stronger mentality this season, and will play 50+ games (already played 11). Long old season, club and country need him fresh and firing like this.

5 England strength in depth. Rashford came on, followed by Henderson, Gibbs-White, Loftus-Cheek and Bowen. So much talent. And with Kane, Eze etc still on the bench.
And with no…Bellingham, Palmer, Foden, Wharton, Grealish, Livramento, James, Trent, Colwill, Mitchell, Gallagher, Jones, Mainoo or Madueke.

6 England in safe hands. Jordan Pickford didn’t have much to do, but his concentration was spot on, and made a couple of point-blank saves. England’s No 1.

7 Welsh defending shocking, first two at corners. First Rodon failed to stick with Rogers, 1-0. Brennan Johnson failed to stick with Ollie Watkins 2-0. Brooks backed off Saka 3-0.

England can qualify in Riga against Latvia on Tuesday, bed in the side in remaining qualifiers and friendlies and head to the World Cup not as underdogs or top dogs but with belief in each other – and in Tuchel.

  4. People talking about Elliot Anderson being in the squad for the World Cup. Come on, he'll be in the team for the World Cup. Another ball-winning, ball-using master-class from Anderson, third in a row for #ENG, pressing relentlessly, passing accurately. And still only 22. #ENGWAL

  5. 3-0 h-t. #ENG impressive, especially opening 20. Quick, clever, clinical. Strong work ethic, pressing high and relentlessly. 4-2-3-1 system working well again, f-bs pushing up again, especially Konsa, England 3-2-5 at times. Anderson brings bite and energy to midfield. #ENGWAL

  6. The friendly has become an exhibition. 3-0 #ENG. Brilliant from Saka. But Wales must have known he would cut in on his left. Brooks stood off. Naive from Wales again. #ENGWAL

  7. England's heroes are Villans. Poacher finishes by Rogers (poor Rodon marking) then Watkins (poor marking by Johnson, who initially had him at the corner then went chasing the ball). #ENG #ENGWAL

  8. England: Pickford; Konsa, Stones, Guehi, Spence; Anderson, Rice; Saka, Rogers, Gordon; Watkins. #ENG #ENGWAL

  9. 22 fans living with dementia will walk out with England and Wales players at Wembley. “I hope it will show that being diagnosed doesn’t mean you suddenly stop doing the things you love,” says Andy Paul, an England fan with Alzheimer’s. #ENG #ENGWAL @[email protected]

  14. Fabulous goal for Wales. No clean sheet for England here. 5-1.

  15. There is quite a gulf in quality between these two teams and a growing gulf in the scoreline too. 4-0 to the Lionesses at the half although Wales had a couple of late chances to give them a sliver of hope.

3-0 to England. Looking pretty comfortable now. Could've been 4 while I was typing this.
