May I gently suggest that handles breaking are a symptom of valves insufficiently exercised?

It's the same as through-hull valves on boats. They're closed and opened on a routine basis, exactly so that they work in case of need.

Come the clutch, it's up to each of us individually not to be #Eloi and expect the mayor or other deus ex machina to charge the climate and weather and our circumstances.

Anyway, as with seismic natural gas valves: a solved problem.

Thst sort of makes my point about valves not being in the center of most folks' wheelhouse.

They're [handles] available at Home Depot and a plethora of less toxic vendors, starting at $15.

We have one on hand, strapped to the gas meter outside with frangible zip ties. No rummaging.

An adjustable wrench will work, on hands and knees.

TimeMachine: so nice until it isn't.

863GB archive mysteriously corrupted, Apple is tight on details so avoiding a repeat isn't informed and there's one option available: redo from start. Meaning increments are gone, apparently. So the backup is substantially unreliable.

If there were 36 hours in a day I'd get rdiff-backup going here and cut out the #Eloi treatment.

Meanwhile, taxpayers continue to get a _fantastic_ deal on state university faculty. Free IT support!
