We've never canceled elections. Not during the Civil War. Not during the world wars.
*Red states* are free to heed Dear Leader and cancel their midterm elections. They'd be giving us the gift of a 145-39 Democratic majority in the House, as well as a temporary 45-34 Democratic majority in the Senate (even without shifts from people newly, belatedly disgusted with Trump and Republicans).
(Yes, most states allow governors to appoint replacements until the special election or next regular election. The Democratic Senate majority could find a spine, recognize that extraordinary times demand extraordinary measures, and simply refuse to seat them! After all, Rs wouldn't pass up such an opportunity!)
