🚀 Laptop Revive groeit door. Elke dag een stukje verder.

Vandaag stond in het teken van onze Revivers. Achter de schermen zijn we druk bezig geweest om voor een groot aantal nieuwe plaatsen de lokale media te benaderen. Want iedere nieuwe vrijwilliger verdient het om ook in zijn of haar eigen omgeving gezien te worden.

Onze landelijke beweging groeit, maar blijft vooral lokaal. Juist in de eigen woonplaats maken onze vrijwilligers het verschil. Zij zamelen laptops in, maken ze weer klaar voor gebruik met Linux Mint en zorgen ervoor dat scholieren en studenten die het financieel moeilijk hebben tóch kunnen beschikken over een goede laptop.

Wat begon als een klein initiatief is uitgegroeid tot een landelijk netwerk van betrokken vrijwilligers. En iedere nieuwe plaats betekent weer meer kansen voor studenten en scholieren die zonder laptop dreigen achter te blijven.

A group of us visited the Dwingeloo radiotelescope on Sunday. I've often cycled down there to ride over the heath or sit near the radio telescope and eat my lunch, but not been on a guided tour before. I recommend it. You can currently book a tour on Sundays and Wednesdays in July and August.

Real discoveries were made here. This was once the largest radiotelescope in the world, a title which of course it has not held for many years.

But the telescope can now do more than it could in the 1950s and 60s because its capability is enhanced by modern software. This made it possible for the wonderful enthusiastic amateurs who now run the telescope to demonstrate things to us within five minutes which once took months for a group of scientists to work out.

A few photos from Sunday's #assenliggers ride with @twilwel, @TheoZw and Erik, going through the countryside of Drenthe and Groningen, passing a shipyard which will launch a ship this coming week (I'm not sure if I'll be there to watch it). Great fun.

I still felt quite fresh when I got near home so I ended up taking a detour until I'd ridden a nice round 100 km (+75 m ;-)

Today's weather was really nice and the #assenliggers went for a bike ride as we do on Sundays. @twilwel, @TheoZw and Gert provided the excellent company today.

My personal target for today was to reach a total of 0.08 Gm on the bike computer in my Mango velomobile, which was reached a few km before I got home. 84 km in total. Not the longest ride we've ever done, but certainly one of the sunniest.

A couple of photos from today's recreational velomobile ride in Drenthe and Groningen. Not one of our longer rides, but I did at least cycle along for more km than my age. There was a strong wind again today so the velomobile's and their much better aerodynamics really made a difference, certainly compared to my ride yesterday on an open bike in similar condtions when I really felt the effect of the headwind.

A few cycling photos from the last week.
Early morning cycling with Judy so we could be back before it got hot. We took a route designed to go past a lot of trees and much shadow.
Taking parcels to the post office for https://www.dutchbikebits.com I usually use my everyday town bike for this. But it's surprising how much it can carry with a few bungies to hold the larger boxes in place.
Collecting bread from a baker needlessly far from home in order to have a nice ride there and back.
Visiting a yacht harbour with @twilwel on our Sunday ride.
