  1. RIP Bengt Berger, Swedish musician and ethnomusicologist. Berger formed the group Bitter Funeral Beer Band after his trip and studies of African music in Ghana in the 1970s. The album is a five part suite that was based on the life and death, and spiritual resurrection of life in Ghana.
Don Cherry is on board. Berger and Cherry go a long way back to the early 1960s when Cherry visited Sweden. Bengt Berger: "I had been to India and had studied tabla, which he got very interested in, so we got to playing a lot, and I stayed for a long time at his house in Sweden and going on European tours with him as well."

Here is a great live performance of the piece from 1982:

  19. Thoughts on individual tracks from new album ‘Mouthful of Dust’

Tides - listening to wind singing through a metal gate at #NoupHeadLighthouse in #Westray. 3 tones would rhymically interplay endlessly by air passing over holes in the rusted metal. That evening listening to #DonCherry Organic Music Society, I understood something. Something I’ve tried to bring into my #CreativePractice since.

  20. Listening to Don Cherry

A well-meaning friend and music connoisseur knew of course about my weakness for Don Cherry and the CD of "Art Deco" is also in the collection for decades. Now also as vinyl. And I may state once again: what a pleasure to have this beautiful work in the collection. If only because of the beautiful cover in 30x30cm.
