Happy Second Birthday to my little miracle girl ❤️

Exactly one year ago today I was preparing to say goodbye to her. My 12-year-old dachshund had her first severe syncope episode. Her heart rate went over 200, and several times she completely lost her pulse.

I spent that entire weekend doing CPR on her, genuinely believing she wouldn't survive until Monday.

She's been living with dilated cardiomyopathy for seven years. On Monday the vet was honest with me - either euthanize her at the clinic or take her home and let her pass surrounded by her family.

I chose the second option. I wanted her last moments to be in a place she knew and loved.

I monitored her breathing and heart rate every 30 minutes, kept a diary, gave her all the medication, and even syringe-fed her water.
A few more times I thought I had lost her.

But slowly, stubbornly, she started coming back. She began to stand, then walk, then eat again. Her numbers stabilized.

And today - exactly one year after the day I almost let her go - she’s now 13 years old, running around the house, playing, and acting like her old self.

I'm incredibly grateful she gave me one more year. I hope we get many more.
