Disquiet Junto Project 0761: When Doves Smile
The Assignment: Make music for (anonymously) someone who’s angered or disappointed you.
There is just one step for this project: Make a piece of music for (anonymously) someone who’s angered or disappointed you. Don’t name the person. Just reach out musically. The effort is as much for you as it might be for them.
Deadline: Monday, August 3, 2026, 11:59pm (that is: just before midnight) wherever you are.

Swimming in electromagnetic fields… For this week's Disquiet Junto prompt, we got to play with light and electricity through music. Sounds like a job for my one-and-only CV synth (0-Coast) paired up with a 3.5k volt Plasma Pedal distortion. Features the shared source sample of a flickering incandescent bulb and bass by Moog Minitaur.

Disquiet Junto Project 0760: Harness the Light
Abbreviated instructions below. Full details at disquiet.com.
This year at Musikfestival Bern, the musician and media artist Michael Vorfeld will have an installation that “investigates lightning as a natural phenomenon, a carrier of electrical energy, a source of light, and a source of danger.” He has provided us with a sample of his Light Bulb Music setup for our creative use.
There is one step in this project: Utilize Michael Vorfeld’s shared sample in the creation of an original piece of music/sound that expresses and explores the pervasiveness — whether subtle or overt — of light and energy all around us.
Deadline: Monday, July 27, 2026, 11:59pm (that is: just before midnight) wherever you are.

The instructions for this week's Disquiet Junto prompt were simple: "Make music with nothing but rocks." A childhood memory of a stalagmite organ a mile underground inspired this response.

(This is a situated piece—designed to place you, the listener, in intimate space with the performers. To get the full experience, use headphones!)

Not all waveforms are created equal. Some are more readable than others. Some, even if they tell a story different in visually than sonically, still register as unique, individual. This one, building from sparse initial strikes, caught my eye. It's the first piece to appear in this week's #DisquietJunto project, in which music is made with nothing but rocks.

In the #DisquietJunto music community this week: Make music with nothing but rocks. (Yes, processing is fine, but the sense of the "rockness" of rocks should be present.) Full instructions at https://disquiet.com/0759. Tracks due Monday, July 20, at 11:59pm (your local time).

It would help to have access to rocks. I know there are places without trees. Are rocks fairly universal? Join in.

Algorithms have made it harder than ever for independent musicians to get heard, and audiences have become used to not paying for music. It's making a lot of us question what we're even doing and why. So what if we started thinking of ourselves less as independent, and more as interdependent?

Dunno why it took 757 consecutive weeks for me to think "Hey, maybe I should list the latest #DisquietJunto project at the top of the FAQ page" but at least I finally had that thought: https://disquiet.com/junto

The theme from Flash Gordon, which I may have heard at some point in the past, but who knows?? I took the sheet music of the "oboe" part (the melody??) and the #DisquietJunto instructions and created my own version.
