Interested in experiences of using a Raspberry Pi 5 with a 3k x 2k HDMI monitor. I’m finding that when windows on the monitor get big, the re-drawing just gets really laggy and makes things a bit unusable.
Now this might be made worse by the fact that a lot of what I’m doing is in apps written in Java - I’m using an up-to-date JVM but I suspect that a lot of JMRI uses the Swing GUI library which never had the best reputation.
In any event a replacement machine with a bit more grunt is on order. This will be the centre of all the automated operations on the railway and quite a few of the manual operations too, so it needs to perform.
The Pi 5 might be up for sale in a couple of weeks if I can’t find a convincing reason to keep it. They’re too expensive to sit in a drawer.
