Upon further reading: At several points in this 2009 paper the author notes the "masculine" and "male-dominated" culture of #DetroitTechno, and how #UndergroundResistance was partly a reaction against it. I was a big fan of early #Detroit #Techno, I knew some of the cats were hustlers but that's not unusual in the music business so that didn't bother me. Started hearing rumors of #DerrickMay's behavior in the 1990s, but didn't realize how bad it was. Obviously some people did. Now the whole scene is suffering.
