I’ve always told myself, I’m not nostalgic. I don’t have any particular attachment for yesterday.

Until I caught myself yesterday, on a beautiful rainy evening, telling myself, this is just how it used to be. And realised that every good feeling now, links back to good memories of yore

So #NoteToSelf :

- it’s ok. nostalgia is good mostly
- in the humdrum of the daily grind, look for moments of joy
- sometimes take the time out to actively go experience new, novel things
- be present. appreciate today for what it gives you.
- and if you keep going back. be grateful for the good memories. just don’t get stuck there

Thanksgiving is a weird day for American expats like myself. I have been outside the US for effectively 20 years and each year I slowly become detached from the isolated norms of America.

Thanksgiving is always that double edged sword of lots of family, but a reminder you don't choose most of your family.

I've tried to recreate it a few times over the past two decades with friends, but it never feels quite the same.

Am I just holding onto fond memories of life before 9/11 and devisive American politics? Probably, and I wish to remain living in that America that no longer exits.
