DarkSword Exploit Chain Spreads Across Threat Actors
A single iOS exploit chain, known as DarkSword, has been spreading rapidly among threat actors, allowing multiple groups to fully compromise iPhones across several countries. This compact, multi-vulnerability exploit leverages zero-day vulnerabilities to achieve complete device takeover, and was first detected in the wild in November…

Ugh! Even after the 18.7.7 update, #Apple *still* nags you to “upgrade” to #iOS v26 though. 😒
Tim Apple, I *don’t* want that silly #LiquidGlass abomination. ✋🏽🙅🏽♂️

Not to mention there are people who can't upgrade to iOS 26.

There is a bunch of buzz along the lines of "Apple FINALLY backports DarkSword related fixes to 18.x and will release this on April 1".
Based on publicly available information this is incorrect.
What Apple has actually done broadened the device models that are eligible to upgrade to iOS/iPadOS 18.
Per Google [1] every vuln in the DarkSword kit except for CVE-2026-20700 had already been patched in iOS 18 as of 18.7.3 which was released on Dec 12, 2025.
Per Apple [2], CVE-2026-20700 is not included in 18.7.7 which was released today.
Apple has placed an easy to miss note at the top of the release notes:
"We enabled the availability of iOS 18.7.7 for more devices on April 1, 2026, so users with Automatic Updates turned on can automatically receive important security protections from web attacks called Darksword. The fixes associated with the Darksword exploit first shipped in 2025."
Unfortunately I don't see an indication of which devices are newly eligible to upgrade to iOS/iPadOS 18.

Too little, too late, #Apple. You made it very clear we had to update to #Tahoe to prevent device armageddon so reluctantly I did, on both iPhones and the iPad.
And now, over a week after all the #DarkSword mass panic and upgrading, you change your mind? Not cool.
But I won’t be buying any more Apple devices anyway. For a variety of reasons, many of which relate to your contempt for your users - which is clearly shown by this late action.

I finally did the thing and updated to #iOS26 due to the #DarkSword malware and #Apple’s appalling decision to not offer #iOS18 security updates to devices capable of running iOS 26. I’m really salty about it. It makes zero sense (especially for managed corporate devices that may not be ready to update) and is dangerous.

A leaked version of the #DarkSword exploit kit, capable of #hacking #iPhones, is now publicly available on #GitHub. This poses a significant risk to millions of iPhone users running older iOS versions, as the exploit requires no iOS expertise to use. #Apple has issued an #emergencyupdate and recommends all users upgrade their operating systems. https://techcrunch.com/2026/03/23/someone-has-publicly-leaked-an-exploit-kit-that-can-hack-millions-of-iphones/?eicker.news #tech #media #news

If you have an #iOS device and you have not updated, you are in danger of a zero click hack, (#DarkSword) the bones of which were just published on #GitHub.
It allows attackers to seize full control by just visiting a compromised website, without requiring any clicks, downloads, or user interaction. The malware operates in memory, deleting its own traces to avoid detection.
Update to iOS 26.3.1 or the latest available version (18.7.6 or higher). If you are running an older hardware, update to at least iOS 15, for emergency patches for older devices.
Go to Settings > General > Software Update to ensure you are fully updated.
If you cannot update immediately, or if you are at high risk, enable Lockdown Mode. This is an extreme, high-security mode. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Lockdown Mode and turn it on.
