Getting out for a walk on this lovely 27°C early spring day (before it threatens to snow again tomorrow night) and I hear a non-stop crinkling sound from the side of the paved trail. I locate the source of the sound and lo and behold #DangerNoodle #Snake slowly slithering through the crunchy leaves.

But even I can admit that this little lady with her heart for brains is cute.

Someone claiming to be from thailand posted this on reddit. This is what you call high risk behaviour. This #dangernoodle is Ophiophagus hannah, the Northern King Cobra.

This cutie is the unfortunately named Bastard snake, the Malpolon monspessulanus. Found in the Mediterranean mountains. One of the beliefs about this species is that it is able to bite its own tail to form a wheel and chase very fast prey. That would make it pain indeed, but the poor snake does not actually do this. On our hike I brought up a YouTube video of a rattlesnake shaking since my wife grew up with them. She was not amused when I played the video behind her 😂. #dangernoodle 🐍

I'm pretty sure they're there - you just don't notice them. Unlike frogs who croak in the evening and whatnot, snakes don't do anything that would bring them to your attention unless you're damn near stepping on them.
The red-sided garter snake's habitat appears to take in virtually all of Alberta, including Edmonton.

I'm more healed up now, so I went for another walk today. Still only half the distance I was up to, and it wiped me as hard as the full distance used to, but there was less pain during and after, so that's healing.
I saw an adorable baby danger noodle out for the afternoon sun, doing its best to avoid being stepped on. It wasn't there when I came back that way, so I assume it got off the trail as it became more heavily trafficked.

CW: Danger Noodle
We had a Christmas get-together this arvo, and when everyone was leaving tonight, we found a Bandy Bandy under the house. Only about 70cm long, and absolutely gorgeous.
They are, potentially dangerous (same genus as the Taipan and Brown Snake), but there's only been on recorded case of a bite with serious localised reactions.
Interestingly, these are burrowing snakes, only come out at night, and eat predominantly Blind Snakes.
