CW: Probability and public policy
During the #Damore fiasco, I was amazed at how many supposedly well educated programmers were unable to understand what random means - so even if their bogus claim of some talent advantage for males had been true, it didn't have any implications for the gender diversity of Google tech and tech management employment. More recently both covid alarmists and deniers don't grasp basic things. People are bad at basic abstraction.
