“My successor will inherit a support structure around the team which is fit for purpose and a working environment on the verge of completion. Our achievements, considering our constraints, have been remarkable. I put the club 1st, always.” Mark Bonner @[email protected] #CUFC #camUtd

When Mark Bonner was 10, he did a school project on what he wanted to be when he was older. “I want to be Cambridge United manager,” Bonner wrote. He achieved that dream, bringing promotion to League One, a famous FA Cup win over a strong Newcastle United side at St James’ Park - Cambridge were even first on Match of the Day - and the “great escape” of last season.
Bonner also earned huge respect for what he did in lockdown. He delivered food parcels and made hundreds of calls to fans to check they were OK. He helped reconnect club with their fans. He cared.
Now, Bonner's been sacked. Results were poor, a solitary League One win since Sep 4, slipping to 18th. But he’s a good manager, and will be high on short-lists when other clubs seek a charismatic, empathetic new manager. If and when he returns to the Abbey Stadium one day, he will get a great reception. Mark Bonner will always be a legend there. Good luck to Mark for the future. #CUFC #CamUTD
