    Waning Moon

    Pluto, Mercury, Neptune Retrograde

    Hot and humid

    And it’s already Friday!

Yesterday morning, I tried to concentrate on some work and failed, so I did admin instead. Then, the payment from the ghostwriting came through, so I went over to the mechanic to talk things through, get an estimate, and get an appointment. So that’s where I will be 8 AM Monday.

I ran a successful errand on the way home, but somehow got all confused and thought it was late afternoon when it was still morning, and was surprised that I had to make us lunch, not dinner.

The good thing about routines is that they make certain things reflexive. The bad thing is that when you have to change something, you have to recalibrate, and sometimes you just fall back into being reflexive. It was not a big deal at all, and we got things sorted out.

However, I made a lovely tuna salad with spinach, carrots, cucumber, and scallion from the CSA box (along with a little mayonnaise. So many salads use too much). It was so good!

And the blueberries from the CSA are spectacular.

    #FreelanceFriends chat was fun.

Then, I switched over to the ghostwriting. My office was too hot to work in by then, so I turned on the ceiling fan and brought the laptop into the livingroom, where Bea supervised.

The vacuum is not working properly, after a scant six months. It’s supposed to have a year warranty, so I contacted the manufacturer’s warranty arm and. . .crickets. For days. I will give it a few more days and then ask Chewy what we should do (since I bought it through Chewy). Up until the last move, I had a vacuum that worked for over 30 years. I’m tired of paying for things that break after 6 months, and the companies ignore the warranties.

I worked on the ghostwriting, but didn’t get as far as I hoped. However, I think this is one of the tighter plots I’ve done, so I hope it works.

I made dinner early – fettucine with fresh tomatoes, onion, fresh garlic, and the other batch of lemon basil from the CSA box. It was so good!

Put on a dress, didn’t bother with anything except lipstick, and got myself out the door. I was later out of the house than I hoped, but I managed to make it to the library trustees meeting on time. It was a good meeting, getting a lot accomplished. Also, three more books came in, so I tucked them into my bag and lugged them around the rest of the night!

I trotted down to the other end of town to Hotel Downstreet, where four of my colleagues had an art opening, curated by one of the leaders of FutureLabs. The work is gorgeous, it looks great in the space, there was a big turnout, and good food and drink. I couldn’t stay long, but at least I could show up and be counted and congratulate my colleagues on their work.

Dashed back home, feeling seriously overheated. Splashed some water on my face and pulled myself together for the library cohort meeting. That, too, was good. We are so lucky to have each other.

After the meeting, I peeled off my clothes and jumped into the shower, then took some time with the cats to decompress. I had the cooler going on in the bedroom on timer. It wasn’t that hot, but the humidity got heavier and heavier over the hours.

Up very early this morning to get everyone fed and the morning routine mostly done (I have to do the 15-minute free-write in a bit). Managed to get out the door by 6 to the laundromat, and got that done, and was back a little after 7.

On today’s agenda: fold and put away laundry, maybe run a couple of errands this morning that didn’t get done earlier in the week, write (focusing on the ghostwriting). Somewhere in there I need to make a curried chicken salad to cover us for the next few days, and do a batch of vegetable stock in the crockpot. It’s too hot to do on the stove, and I have 5 bags of vegetable bits in the freezer.

I have a bunch of things I “should” do over the weekend, but we’ll see how things shake out. Monday morning, I take the car in. According to the weather app on my phone, next week will be brutally hot, especially mid-week, so I will plan to work at the college library in the afternoons. Although I just got an alert on the laptop that said temperatures are going down on Wednesday? Not being able to plan because of the lack of correct information because of the way NOAA’s been gutted thanks to That Thing is exhausting.

Congress is useless. They all have to go, and we need a fresh batch of elected officials who remember they work FOR us, rather than exploiting us and stripping the country for parts.

Anyway, I hope you have a great weekend, and we’ll catch up next week.
